Mahomes' 3 TDs lift Texas Tech past reeling Arkansas 35-24 ~ espn.go.com

How'd y'all do against the Hogs?
quote:

...Y'all were allowed to hold the entire game...

Who "allowed" this? Are you suggesting there was some sort of collusion amongst the officiating crew to allow cheating? Why? What's being done about this?
quote:

First of all, you can never be sure if someone is really injured or has cramps.

Very true. Subsequently, you never can know if the same someone has fully recovered....after sitting out a play or two on the sidelines. I mean, a highly competitive individual playing big time D1 college football might just say he's OK....when he really just wants to get back into the game, right? The same game where play had to be stopped to tend to his injury/cramp? Out of an abundance of caution....I say it'd be better to hold him out for a series. Maybe the remainder of the quarter or half? You know....'cause you can never be sure, right?

quote:

....till you get a semblance of a defense....

Believe they got Coach Gibbs workin' on this.....right now. But, this was his first full season as a RED RAIDER. I'm OK with givin' him a little time. Recruit his own kids, implement his own style.
quote:

...You try to equate athleticism (speed, strength, etc.) to fatigue...

The correlation IS direct. You ever run a marathon? Triathlon? (I have, and still do) One's speed and strength (athleticism) diminishes, as fatigue sets in. The clock.....keeps ticking at the same rate.

quote:

The reality is that you can't tell the difference between the guy who twisted his ankle or has a cramp with the guy who is just tired.

You're making my point, my friend. And the guy who lays down on the field to gain an unfair advantage (because he is tired) is cheating the rules of the game. Any way you slice it.

Guess it's the difference between seeing the game as a 60 minute contest....vs. a series of individual plays.
I stated my position RE: pro ball earlier. Not my thing....if you like it? Cool.

This is a college football forum, correct? I have kept my comments regarding the game within the context of the forum....save for transgressions to answer another poster.
Riley will run hurry up when the situation dictates it. I won't split hairs with you over the description/style/definition...

Having Perine gives him more options, no doubt.

How are you judging top offenses?

FBS Football Statistics provided at NCAA.com. I googled it.

quote:

A fast past with more plays will obviously lead to more points and yards.

Pretty much the point on the offensive side of the ball.....isn't it?

quote:

tech averages 6.6 yards per play.....LSU....averaged 6.4 yards per play

Sooo.....IF LSU had run more plays.....wouldn't they have had similar net offensive production numbers as TECH?

quote:

...and their defenses are awfull....

OU runs this offense, led by another former RED RAIDER. (Lincoln Riley)

The Sooner D? Gave up about 3 yds. a game more than the Tiger D....playin' against much more productive offensive teams.

Did you know they'll be playin' for the National Championship....if they win one more game?
Michael Crabtree, Wes Welker, Danny Amendola all say HI!

None were highly recruited...all seem to be doing just fine as professional athletes. Your point?

Patrick Mahommes wasn't highly recruited either, because many thought he would go the baseball route. And, he was solid for TECH from the get-go. So, few offers. Coach Kingsbury said he could come to TECH, play QB and pitch for Coach Tadlock. I'd take him straight up over any other sophomore QB in the country right now.

Tell ya' what...

Jett Duffey....2016 commit for the Red Raiders. No other offers....cause he made it clear from the beginning he was gonna' play for TECH and Coach Kingsbury. Lets see his QB numbers vs whoever is QB for LSU in.....say, three years?

quote:

...I live in big 12 country...

Might wanna' check a map there, partner. JENNINGS, LOUISIANA is still EAST of the Sabine. :dunno:

That'd put you in sec! country.

Glad I could help.
quote:

...the hurry up offense is lame...

Yet, the top 3 college offenses in the country run it, along with most of the top 20 collegiate offenses in the nation.

Lame? OK.

I'm blown away by the general acceptance of cheating (faking injuries to facilitate a time out) some here advocate.

How do y'all feel about off sides? Should the "lame" team be allowed this advantage? Should the smaller/slower/less athletic player be allowed to "hold" his opponent?
quote:

...Chip Kelly brought it to the NFL and it did not work....

Not sure where you're going with this.

If pro ball is your thing....cool. Doesn't hold the same interest for me as the college game.

Vince Young, RG III and Johnny Football were all exciting players to watch in college. Two of 'em won the Heisman, VY was runner up. None of 'em have much of a pro resume.

Any of their clones could be on my college team.
quote:

...inferior talent...

How is lining up 5 wide outs running different patterns...."inferior"? The offense is designed to put the ball in the end zone. Score touchdowns. The forward pass is a legal play in football. Lots of teams do it. It is also deemed acceptable to snap the football and begin a play, once the ball is placed at the line of scrimmage and the play clock is started. Any artificial alteration of this...is at least poor sportsmanship. And violates the rules of the game.

quote:

....these types of offenses somewhat neutralized his advantage.

Don't all coaches attempt to "neutralize" the other teams advantages? Maybe we oughta' just concede the championships to Alabama in the sec!, Ohio State in the Big 10, OU can be the designated BIG XII champs. Doesn't matter.....pick one for the PAC XII and the ACC.

Rotate the National Champion designation each year, and let ND have it every once in a while.

Or, we could just play the games...within the rules....and see what happens.
quote:

There is a rule that says the game is stopped to allow for injured players to substitute.

And I take no issue with this. There are also rules which address delay of the game. Should they be enforced also?

No objective observer of college football can deny certain teams employ the "injury" time out to give their defense a rest against fast paced offenses. Coaches in your league have acknowledged they use it, as well as advocating against this type of offensive approach. Even the TV announcers speak to the situation, with a wink and a nod....of course. Saw it several times last night in the aggy v L'ville game.

Interesting observation: the "injury" bug seems to bite mostly after a big gain by a fast offense, and said offense is lined up quickly to run another play. Rarely is a defensive player "injured" after the play results in a sack, or a tackle for a loss. Coincidence?

The wide receiver for Arkansas, Jared Cornelius......BROKE HIS ARM in the game against TECH this year. He jogged all the way across the field with it. No extended stoppage of play. No drama.
You must really miss racoon coats, leather helmets and two way starters...

quote:

....a few teams want to run a play and sprint to the LOS to run the next play without letting the Defense setup and substitute if necessary....

This is the disconnect....right here. The DEFENSE is allowed to put their select 11 players on the field at the start of the game, and every subsequent change of possession.....right? OFFENSE does the same. Any time the offense substitutes, the defense is given the same opportunity. The umpire stands over the ball to insure it is not put into play until defensive substitutions are completed. How can this possibly give the offense an advantage?

You seem to imply DEFENSIVE players lack the athleticism, or physical fitness required to keep up with the offense. OK. Solution?

The #7 running back for y'all seemed to be faster at times than our guys. I remember one particular play where he outran our DB. Should some special compensation been allowed our defense to keep him from running so fast? On some plays the LSU offense would run him, then line up and run him again, real quick like.

Would you approve of "faking an injury" to give the defense time to "set up and substitute"?

I wouldn't.
quote:

....booing an injured player sucks....

How do you tell which ones are "injured"....and which ones just simply shat their pants?
quote:

.....you try to limit substitutions and you try to get an advantages in ways other than athletic prowess.

How is lining up your 11 vs my 11 gaining any type of unfair "advantage"? If your 11 don't have the athletic prowess to keep up, well.....

I fully support fake injuries...

Gotta' admire your honesty.

Fearless Champion was in Houston...but not in the stadium. Management doesn't allow live animal mascots on the field....evidently.
