Earlier this week, we learned that Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond would be the Aggies starter for the season opener vs. Northwestern State, beating out Nick Starkel for the job.

During the SEC Coaches Teleconference, head coach Jim Fisher explained why Mond is starting over Starkel. Per The Houston Chronicle:
quote:

“He played very well in the pocket (in camp) and made great decisions,” Fisher said on the weekly SEC teleconference, the first of the season. “He led our team and played with great poise and composure and knowledge of our offense. He created plays and our team followed him very well, not that they didn’t with Nick (Starkel).

“He had a little better camp overall and he’s our starter. But we feel very comfortable with Nick, also.”
