Mark Stoops Confirms He Was Pursued 'Aggressively' For Texas A&M Job
Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports
During Thursday's SEC Media Days session, Kentucky coach Mark Stoops acknowledged that Texas A&M made a play for him after firing Jimbo Fisher without providing further details...
quote:

"I was pursued pretty aggressively by them and we’ll just leave it at that out of respect for everybody involved," Stoops said, per On3's Andrew Graham. "There’s a lot of people over the years and a lot of interactions between people, but it was very brief. I was pursued, I had a job to do."

Stoops confirmed in late November that another school contacted him, but he "knew in my heart I couldn’t leave the University of Kentucky right now."

I thought he was offered, he took it, it was semi-leaked, the aggie fans pouted and they rescinded the offer. Then went after Elko.

Wasn't this known when it all happened?

That seems a little strange.

Why was it strange? The expectations are sky high at TAMU with how much NIL they can dish out for top recruits. He can push for a playoff spots every 3-4 years at Kentucky, and they'll keep him around. He'll also get a raise if he reaches 10 wins again.

Well, for one, I would imagine the money would be a little better, and Kentucky's resources aren't comparable to aTm.

He's a solid coach who will get his opportunity one day.
