Ok yes she can’t bomb it thru the endzone but the pooch kick as it has been affectionately known was a nice placement and off a turf field could be dangerous.

You maybe lose 10-15 yards in net to increase your recovery chance by a significant amount. The ball only has to go 10 yards before you end up in a make it take it scenario. The new field turf installed everywhere amplifies the bounce from the rubber.

It is about shot placement not shot distance as Dechambeau found out at Augusta. If she can learn to control a kick such that it isn’t an onside in the traditional sense of kicking into a wall of hands team but rather a 15-20 yard kick scramble in space in the field it will be hard to cover as a receiving team.

Sarah Fuller may be mocked relentlessly until the next soy boy trigger, but the actual strategy behind a kickoff may change going forward knowing we have just accepted the ball placement at the 25 and essentially removed special teams.

Special teams will not go away. Too many advantages that don’t show up on the scorers sheet. Because special teams is that. A bunch of the lesser players trying their best to contribute to the team effort. They aren’t the big name kids but the scrappy ones no one knows who more have to fight even harder to earn what they have. Sarah Fuller embodies that. She has to probably get death threats in her DMs over a kickoff in a game where she only did everything that was asked of her.

Yes, she kicked the kick she was told to kick. Problem is, 99% of the players already on the team could have done the same. The undue adulation heaped on her upset players that have worked for years to play at Vanderbilt. They sweated in the heat of summer, lifted weights until their muscles ached, and practiced together for months to go on the field and represent Vanderbilt. Then in a week their efforts were laughed at by the administration just so they could get publicity for themselves.

Perhaps, but a lot of those guys were already "next man up" due to the numbers that opted out or hit the transfer portal. I wasn't a big fan of all the hype surrounding this, but to imply that there weren't already plenty of other problems is disingenuous at best...
