No, dumbass. Everyone was convinced there would be a chance to make UGA better off. There's also a chance that it couldn't. I was in the camp that it's a chance worth taking because shitty Florida bowl games and 9 wins don't mean anything when Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Florida have all won national titles during Richt's tenure and UGA hasn't even won the goddamn SEC in a decade. It was time to make the move, and now it's up to UGA to make the right hire and make sure this was the correct move.

With all the resources available (read: HS talent) in this state, Georgia has the ceiling of a Tressel like run at OSU when they were in the national title discussion every year for a decade, won it once, played for it two other times, and won or shared something like 8/9 B1G titles between 2002-2010. It was obvious that Richt was not going to maximize the full potential of the program. It's time to find someone who can.

All the resources, he dealt with a stingy administration while Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Florida were willing to get top notch coordinators for a million dollars.

We just did that for this year. Resources...

Didn't he already agree in principle to Houstons new deal? They threw some money at him and he accepted it I believe.

yes in principal, but that could be a leverage thing. It's all steps towards a contract if we want him.

What do 6 win seasons and the Toilet Bowl mean? And he averaged closer to 10 wins than 9.

That said, almost all of Richt's detractors said even a mediocre coach could win 10, so we should at least break even.

Wasn't Tressel fired for cheating?

I would rather win 2 SEC titles than 8 or 9 B1G titles.

We've already missed on Fuente and Herman. If we miss on Smart how is this working out for you? Upgrade anyone? Meeting potential anyone?

Herman made a point of saying "we haven't signed anything..." He's very much in play imp.

I swear I think some of these guys flat out want UGA to whiff to say they told ya so. Which is funny because they are the folks who said that people wanted UGA to lose just to say they told you so.

What a vicious cycle.

Hermans press conference when he was talking about his "agreement in principle" seemed more like a "get me out of here" plea... It was kind of awkward and I wouldn't be too happy with it if I was Houston. He kept saying stuff like- I'm here for now, unless something changes, things aren't set in stone, etc etc

"Agree in principle" is not worth the paper that it's not written on. Why would anyone with ambition, which he obviously has, pass up UGA for Houston?

I had read he wanted to stay in Texas for the UTx job after Strong is fired.

This is the problem with Herman...

A.Seems like he'd bolt too easily to a Texas program (esp. the Longhorns) or to OSU as soon as CUM has another heart attack.

B.Doesn't have the relationships for recruiting that Smart has.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't want him at UGA- just saying.

Pretty sure he recruited GA for OSU so I wouldn't worry about that. Especially with how he's doing with Houston

Give him a sweet heart deal, and handcuff his arse to the arches. If he balks, Kirby Smart is on line 1. We can't be a stepping stone. That is what ultimately did UT in.

It's not that I'd be worried about it necessarily I'm just making the comparison to KS who has many relationships with HS coaches in the deep South.

Many coaches recruit the Atlanta metro area because of the airport.

Very true. I believe Kirby is easily our best choice to salvage this class and lock down GA
