Count me in as a big Daijun Edwards fan. He is not what I consider a great running back. He does not have exceptional speed, vision, moves etc....but, he hits a hole quickly and refuses to go down. He lowers his shoulder and punishes the defense. His ability to avoid getting hit squarely and stay on his feet (balance) is impressive.
But he does. That's what makes him so good. And when he sees it, he hits the hole full speed. For 2023 Edwards could be a slower but more powerful version of James Cook.

I agree about Daijun having exceptional vision. Add patience and anticipation to that as well.
You don't need to be the fastest or strongest if you can setup the linebacker and push for 3 more yards that weren't there before.
I disagree about the Cook comparison. He isn't that fast. He isn't that style. And I don't think he has Cooks hands (which are below McIntosh's hands).
I don't watch other teams. And I don't watch the NFL. So I don't have a good comp. Milton is a great one cut back (Milton reminds me of Cook more because of how he hits a hole and his top end speed). But against a solid defense where there aren't holes, give me Daijun. He will get more out of nothing and keep us out of trouble (3rd and long assuming no holding or procedural penalties) better than any other back right now. He just runs hard. Harder than the defense wants to tackle him.

I never felt cook was that fast. He good acceleration, but didn't have that top end speed in my recollection. Multiple Bama dudes hawked him down in the championship game last year. I would say Mustard and he would have similar speeds.
Milton comp is Richard Samuel.

Milton is already far more coordinated and athletic than Samuel. He’s just been injured a decent bit. Samuel went from LB to RB and back and couldn’t find a home.

It isn't hawking a guy down when you tackle him right after the catch.
Hawking a guy down is trailing when he recovers from the catch and then tackling him.
Cook ran a 4.42 forty. You are flat wrong.

Wrong again. Lol

I do know the D-Line might be the best we’ve ever had and I’m being serious. Bear & Williams alone are going to be pure fricking hell. I also think this Jamal Jarrett kid will play day one too. Jarrett, Williams, Bear, Brinson, MJjr, etc. Gonna be a really special defense.

That's a tall order

The one where Fowler is like "He has blazing speed!" As 2-3 Bama dudes hawk him down.
Cook is running a banana to the sideline and then to the pylon.
3 defenders are taking straight angles.
Have you never heard "they had the angle on him"?
If someone was trailing Cook from behind and caught him, he got hawked.
I don't think we see the same things.

It is however, Williams was probably our best pass rusher. I know Nolan would have had an incredible year and probably led the team but Williams actually did. Bear looked incredible when he played. There’s others too.

Am I alone in this take?
Will post more evidence later.

Battle is falling down and only a yard in front of Cook as he is breaking into open space. That is not having an angle. The other guy was dead even and coming from the far hash and would have tackled him before the goal line.

It’s not like we were playing some Big 12 defense. Cook is faster than any RB we had this year. He’s not the fastest player to ever exist, but he’s pretty darn fast especially for an RB.

I can’t wait to see Jalon Walker develop. He seems like a dude who can play inside or out, and will be a disruptor.
Secondary should elite next season even with the loss of Chris Smith and likely Ringo. eta: didn’t realize Ringo declared today.

Jackson Muschamp and Brock Vandagriff will transfer. Fact that they played Beck, tells me that he gets the nod.

I disagree. Look at the route taken by each player. Cook takes the longer route (banana). Straight lines = has the angle on him.

We have a step back without that type of weapon next season.
It's always nice to have that weapon. I suspect we will put even more emphasis in throwing to TEs with Delp coming in. Maybe even have a two back in the backfield formation with one being a TE and running Delp or Bowers out of the backfield like we did McIntosh. We ran it at least once in the game against TCU, I think. But yes. I think ideally we have another RB like McIntosh.

But he does.
You think he does? I have not seen it from him, but I am always willing to accept I could be wrong. I don't know what he runs the 40 in.
Mind you, I am not saying he is necessarily lacking so much as being exceptional in these areas. I would put him more in the average category, which is still pretty good considering it is rare for a RB to be average in all of these categories. Add to that his balance and ability to avoid a solid hit and that is pretty special. Not elite. But very good.

I would strongly disagree with this. Yes, more powerful and slower.....but his hands not in the same category as Cook's.
Again. My opinion.
