This game still matters as far as to what bowl parring we get and I sure don't want to hear someone posting Kentucky on every thread we argue on.

CMR gave a rare quote this morning showing a little incite into the Dawg mindset.

quote:

Here's what I say: I say we're a team here at Georgia and we're going to keep coaching and keep trying to make improvements and corrections on everything we do, in all phases of the game,” Richt said when asked to rate his level of satisfaction with the defensive coaching staff's performance.

The Dawgs played lights out football showing a twinkle of what could have been all year long in the 4th quarter last week and I would like to see it continue for the next three games.

Thoughts?

I'm hoping we murder Kentucky on the field. Seniors will be trying for a big game and everyone will be playing with a chip on their shoulder after the way the last one ended.

Regarding CMR's comment, it sounded like he was just trying to draw attention off of his DC in public. Yeah, all aspects of our game need improvement, so he called that out, but I bet he's super ticked at CTG for the way his defense continues to screw the pooch.

All I'm saying is that is not that "rare" of a quote from CMR. It is the typical canned response of "We have to continue to improve blah blah blah."

If he said "We suck on Defense" then you could color me impressed.

If I'm CTG that quote sure doesn't instill any confidence.

I'm sure CMR does feel that way but it doesn't show up in his action steps/priorities. If you assume that a HC, should place equal emphasis on offense and defense, then you would think that over the years the defense would be better than the offense some of those seasons. I would have to look up the stats, but my perception is that our defense has never been better than the offense under Richt.

Definitely didn't sound too confident in his staff. Maybe this time will be different considering Willie was Richt's friend and Todd, well, Todd is an a-hole

The season is officially over, we will be playing on December 30th in Nashville against some pathetic ACC team regardless of what takes place Between the Hedges Saturday night....

The only thing we can hope for is no major injuries to underclassmen heading into the off season.

Onward...

I'll take New Years in Atlanta or a wild night in chilly Nashville over Jan 1 in South FL any day, bowl payout/prestige be damned

I think Saturday was the breaking point. You could tell Richt was fricking fed up and I think Grantham and his shittastic defense was the reason for this. Our defense could be special next year if we get someone on the sidelines who knows that the frick he's doing.

The problem is that CMR doesn't micromanage the offense and defense, and he trusts his coordinators to get the job done so he can work on the bigger picture.

The freedom has allowed Bobo to flourish, but Grantham has greatly underwhelmed. And, because Richt is all about second chances, he's been really patient with CTG. The youth and inexperience excuse goes only so far (first few games?) but a good leader will try to develop their people and maximize their strengths as well as remove as many barriers as possible to success.

In this case, it looks like the players are being drilled in fundamentals (player development) and the playbook on defense is a huge barrier to success, and it doesn't seem like that has been changed. I would hope that CMR sits down with CTG after the season and puts him on a "performance improvement plan" (if he isn't let go outright after the season) to get his crap together for next season.

The frustration comes in for the fans because we aren't involved with the politics of an athletic department and we don't worry about budgets and contracts. Those sorts of things make decisions harder on the staff, so I'm sure they are trying to make fixes internally before they go seeking a replacement. It can get really expensive really fast to hire coaches and fire them before their contracts are up.

I hope CTG is gone after this season. The body of work he has amassed has not justified his salary, IMO.

Not until we beat Tech. Even though the season has unquestionably been a disappointment, beating UT, UF, LSU, USC, and hopefully Tech is at least something positive.

Yeah location is the most important thing to me at this point so Nashville would be cool from that aspect. IMO we will destroy our opponent since we will be in such a shitty game. I am just thankful that it will be some awful ACC team as opposed to the second or third best team in CUSA or the American Conference, because we have been down that path of humiliation before.

Plus playing against some God awful team like Syracuse would allow for Murray to go off on a good note and maybe allow for some backups to get some pt.

This.

Time for analytic assessment after the Tech game and sure I think it is needed on a six sigma scale unbiased and extensive.

Foo,

If Richt isn't micro-managing the O and D then what the F' is he doing? Not special teams, not balanced recruiting, not coaching S&C.

What does the man do all day? Serious question. Is he just a figurehead? Is his day filled with media stuff? Meeting recruits? Is this what all head coaches do? I've never been a coach, and the coaches in my sport were sort of "do this work out at this pace, then I'll get back to you" types.

He's managing the game as a whole, from what I figure.

Making calls on whether to go for it on 4th and 1; clock management; the decision to go for a FG or a TD; arguing with the refs; and making executive decisions during critical moments. They also are the head cheerleader and enforcer when the players aren't doing what they should be doing.
