Notre Dame #8 without ranked win. Virginia lost to Miami, and USC is 3-3

i felt pretty confident all along that we'd finish 11-1 heading into the sec title game. it just would have been nice to put that 1 off for a little longer when we need it.

missouri, florida, auburn, and texas A&M is a super tough 4 game stretch to get through. we take care of business against the lesser teams and all of a sudden we slip up against auburn and it can be 2017 all over. now a second slip up ends us.

we can still definitely pull it off, but it's gonna be ridiculously hard.

When we do, we will deserve that Playoff spot.

well i didnt even mention bama/lsu.

that's the other thing. if we went 4-0 over that stretch and went 12-0 heading into the SECC, we'd have a really good chance to lose and still be in. now we have to win 7 straight with probably 4 of those coming against ranked teams.

I say it every year and people call me a scaredy cat. We haven't gone undefeated in the regular season in 37 years and counting but people want to add another SEC game plus another premiere OOC like USC or Texas on teh schedule for the "entertainment value".

i strongly disagree with that. We have 5 years worth of data at our disposal and it's generally pretty clear what the committee looks for and conference championships are placed at an extremely high value. If we assume that the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC champion all have 1 or 0 losses, which seems extremely likely, we wouldn't have a prayer of getting in.
