I can't believe in back to back games that we decided this was an appropriate course of action. Especially after the first one cost us our starting QB. Maybe in a world where we had incredible receivers to grab some of these jump balls, but we couldn't catch COVID in Wuhan this year.

I was fine with either call. In both cases, the QBs need to feel it and shuffle. I would have also been ok taking a knee. I get the tone they were trying to set. I also know a lot of the Braintrust would have bitched that they had no killer instinct.

Olineman should have tackled that dude and held. Then we just take a knee.

Bad Oline play, punter couldn’t flip fields, dropped huge pass, Etienne first fumbled, Gunner willing to run but not very fast, unable to get off blocks to stop their QB from running.

ND had 240 offensive yards.

Agree.
We were only down 3 with 35 seconds to close out the half deep in our end of the field.
Stockton had already been sacked a couple of times from that blind side.
Be happy to be only down 3 with your backup QB and hope that the offense can get on track in the 2nd half.
Instead, Kirby allows a risky dumb play call that gives ND a cheap TD and all the momentum in what appeared to be a defensive struggle in which points would be at a premium.

Hail Mary that backed up wasn't an attempt at a killer instinct it was desperation.

Run the ball and head to the locker room

Yep. I have no problem with the call. If they bust a bomb then everyone is head over heels in love with what he did. If they just run out the clock half the fan base are up in arms that Kirby gave up. He stayed aggressive and I'm good with that despite the way it turned out. Those things happen.

Stockton had also already connected with AS on a perfectly thrown ball for huge chunk play.
