Halftime score was 24-17 Tennessee (field goal with under 30 seconds before the half).
Pitt outscored Tennessee in the second half 10-3.
Defenses can make adjustments on the Tennessee offense. Ultimately, it is about enough guys winning their one on one matchups.

The vols are mighty lucky to get out of Pittsburgh with a win. If the Panthers starting QB played in the second half of that game, I believe Pitt wins. JMO, Pitt pretty much laid the blueprint for slowing down the vols offense. Pitt's defense brought constant pressure on Herndon. They kept him rattled and did sack him 4x's. Plus, Tenn. could not establish a running game ... only 91 yards (2.6 avg) on the ground. Pitt's offense did their part, too. They rushed for over 140 yds ... doing so, they kept Tenn's offense off the field by chewing up 35 minutes. TO's, Pitt did have 2 vs. 1 for the vols. I have know idea if the vols scored as a result of the TO's.
If a sorry Pitt team can have the vols scrambling to win, that tells me the Dawgs are far more likely to win Saturday than not. Talent wise, the Dawgs have the edge by a longshot and far better coaching. Just play smart, sound and if possible error free football.

To be fair to Tennessee, their offensive line has handled pressure better since that game. Bama did send pressure. It didn't work. They didn't go back to it (risk wasn't worth the reward in their opinion).
The difference between pitt and bama is homefield advantage. The defense gets such a better jump in a loud environment.
Our offensive line wasn't any different against mizzou.
Their ends were speed rushing around both of our tackles. We don't hardly ever see that.

Tennessee is a lot better now than when they played Pitt. That game isn't going to tell us much.

All teams improve including Pitt who lost to Ga Tech....

How are Tn's ends? Wonder if we will see that again...

If this is a stat Saturday (or anything close to it) UGA will cover the spread, plus 2-3 more scores.
It cannot be understated just how important the run is to what Heupel is doing up there.

I'm not sure if we ever see it, like that, again. I swear Kirby broke his dick off in Searles'arse at halftime. That offensive line in the second half (and ever since) has looked immeasurably better.

You are 100% right. Their O-line is much improved. But I do believe that Carter will be the difference maker against their o-line. He'll make life unbearable for their center .. forcing Tenn to double team him.
One big key to winning (among many), can the Dawgs establish and maintain a solid running game? If the Dawgs rush for 150 or so yards, that will make it really tough on the vols winning this game.

I imagine Monkin is going to pull some shite out of his arse that we haven't seen yet. I have a feeling we are to run it pretty good

I agree ... Carter being back is big. He's so explosive and disruptive. Difference maker on the d-line.

I think the running game will do well.
I have no clue if we start fast.
Or if it takes 25 minutes to get going.
I had the same concern against Florida and we were great on the ground from the opening drive.
Most signs point to the OL being ready for this test. Especially at home.
Tennessee's rush defense is #1 in the conference (3.04 per attempt) in conference play. And that is going against Bama, LSU, Florida, and kentucky. They scheme to take away the run.
Maybe we start fast on the ground (run behind 0). Maybe we have to loosen them up with the pass game first. I don't know. But I have faith that we will be running at will in the second half.

Same here ... I do believe we'll have some success at running the ball. Keep the vol's offense on the sidelines and give our defense time to rest ...

We really haven't seen the likes of sweeps and the like since the SC game. Does the speed of typical SEC teams account for that?

I think some teams have backed their linebackers off the line of scrimmage.
It allows them clearer lanes to stretch the sweeps wide. Makes it harder for an OL to climb up quickly to cut them off.
We are still able to reach those linebackers on counter. Sometimes on inside zone. But I think it keeps them more flat footed on our playactions. And it is harder to disguise their blitz.

Reminds me of Oklahoma in 2017. Most fans assumed that offense was an aerial circus, but any success Georgia had against them was going to be directly correlated to stopping their run game as they ran the ball on almost 60% of their snaps. As it turns out, that proved true.
Same holds true with Tennessee. Stopping the run with 5 is the single biggest key to this game. That and scoring touchdowns in the red zone and not kicking field goals.

It is basically stopping the Alabama offense last year. Disrupt, don't let the WR get behind you and man to man on the corners. We can do this.
Posted on 11/2/22 at 11:29 am to Dawgsfan81
Put hands on their WRs every play and rough them up. Throw their arse down in the 1st 5 yards. Make Hooker move off his spot and make it hurt when he runs lay him out.

This is the other big key. Last week, against a severely crippled and dogshit Anthony Richardson, the defense could not finish sacks. If they get hands on Hooker in the backfield, there cannot be missed sacks this week. If he gets outside, hit him hard enough to make him question his life choices. When he gets up, do it again.
