I’ve got faith in the DL youngsters. Once they settled in on Saturday, they played well.
Smith will replace LeCount. Smith is solid. Would start on most teams.

Smith isnt better than Reese.
"Start on most teams" may only work when there are 130 teams playing. I dont think he would start on half of the SEC teams.
As for DL, I'm looking forward to Brooks Austin's defensive film study tonight. We have to scheme differently when we dont have 340 pounds plugging double teams in the A gaps. It doesnt mean that we cant be successful. It just means that we have to do different things to reach that success on the inside.

Bill Norton, Zion Logue and/or Tymon Mitchell should step in and get reps for Rochester.

Those players out give Mullen a lot more room to be creative. Especially if their run game gets working. Mullen pretty much abandoned the run in the 1st quarter last season and you could tell it was in the game plan to abandon the run since no one did anything on the ground on us last year.
Crazy to say now, but the injuries in a strange way could work in our favor. Mullen tends to be stubborn with game plans and if he believes us being down 2 DL will open up the run game he will commit to that and try to set up a play action game out of of it. For all the accolades he gets, Mullen play calls himself out of games when his ego gets in the way and if his “genius” game planning doesn’t work he’ll continue trying to force round pegs I square holes. Watch the 2017 MSU game where he kept trying to pick on our corners with deep throws 1 on 1 and we were having none of it.

I think the truth is those circumstances probably will enhance Florida's running game and make their offense more balanced. Sorry, there's no way I can see losing 2 of our best players on defense as a positive.

What makes people say this? Outside of recruiting rankings anyways. Smith has been far better in his playing time here than Reese ever was.

You do realize that they were a part of the same recruiting class?
You do realize that Reese was chosen by our coaching staff to be ahead of Smith on the depth chart?
It is about as cut and dry a comparison as you will ever find.
Reese played 11 games as a true freshman with 1 start.
Over 2 seasons, he logged 25 games with 15 tackles.
Chris smith played 5 games as a true freshman.
Over 2 seasons. He logged 19 games and 11 tackles.
I'm not bagging on Chris Smith. I'm just stating the fact that our coaches who have every incentive to win games chose Reese over Smith (not just the recruiting rankings. Our coaches)

Yes, freshman year, Reese was a better player than Smith.
So far, this year, what Smith has done on the field is much better than anything Reese did for us on defense. Reese was solid on special teams from what I can recall.
Reese was built up on hype from hard hits. He was slow, and he did not wrap up during his time at Georgia.

Why we whine about departed players boggles my mind. Not coming back, why worry with about them.

Are you describing Reese?
Or every other freshman safety at UGA (Lecounte, Rambo, etc..)

That's debatable. But you are comparing an upper classman to an underclassman.
How was Lecounte, Rambo, Shawn Williams all as underclassmen?

Brooks Austin sees some of the NT reps going to Devonte Wyatt (and bringing other bodies to fill in for Wyatt such as Brinson and Stackhouse in running downs).
It looks like Smith will fill for Lecounte, and we are expecting Cine in some capacity out there.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Webb take on a role if called upon (stevenson is good enough to man the nickel by himself).

I was originally responding to the post that said Smith is better than Reese.
I responded why I didn’t think that was correct. I told Ole Miss fans when they got him I think he’s a talented player who has potential. He just didn’t really have a role in our defense due to lack of speed, and didn’t tackle very well.
Didn’t mean for it to come off as whining. OMMR has every right to do what he wants as far as where he attends college.
