I guess using your logic they should be looking for a way out of it ASAP.
You would guess wrong.

lens of what you want as a fan of UGA sports.
South Carolina fans can claim UGA as their biggest in conference rival.
They've played UNC, NCState, Wake Forest, Citadel, Furman, and Duke more than they've played any other SEC team.
We can be their biggest in conference rival and it not be a big deal to them.
We didn't play them every year before they joined the conference. It wasn't that type of rivalry. We'd matchup about 8 times a decade.
We have played Kentucky and Vandy more times than we've played South Carolina.
Does Vandy and Kentucky see us as passionate rivalries? Vandy has beaten us more times than Carolina has.
2 things can be true.
We can be their biggest conference rival.
And Carolina not getting to play us every year would not be the end of the world. They've only been in the conference for 30 years.
They HAVE been rivaled with Arkansas and A&M over the years.
They have a Columbia thing going on with Missouri over the years. And that really is a thing.
Geographically, their most competitive SEC opponents are Vandy and Kentucky. Then Miss St/Ole Miss/Arkansas out of the region.

One thing for sure, the road to Atlanta goes thru Athens if you're a SCar team.

If we aren't paired with them every year, they could meet us in Atlanta.
That is the only conference game that matters in the grand scheme of things (SECCG)
And it is the only game that matters to me behind AU, GT, and UF.

Were it not for the Spurrier years at SC, I don't even think we're having this conversation. But, it has evolved into a rivalry among young fans.
If we're going straight history, it's Vanderbilt. But does either UGA or Vanderbilt want to play each other permanently?

You think Carolina fans are more concerned with their "rivalry" against UGA?
Or more concerned with finding a way to a SEC Championship and/or playoff spot?
Honest question.
the answer is none of the above
the answer is an easy and super fun road trip every year
which means many of them will use "rivalry & history" as their argument
'Cocks would love to win big, but they never have & I doubt that they want to lose their best/easiest bi-annual road trip for the illusion of an "easier path"

since 1958, we have played them every year except for 1965 and 1972

I have never seen any concensus that UGA is their best bi-annual road trip. I would guess that Clemson would be #1. I wouldn't be shocked if #2 is a scatter among 3 or 4 schools.

Winnipedia isn't difficult
1965
1972
1973
1990
1991
Maybe you were thinking of vandy.
Since 1958, we have played them every season but 1966 and 1967.
Or maybe Kentucky. We've played them every year going back to 1956.

yeah, my tired eyes whiffed, but the history is the strongest for them SEC wise
plus, Vince brought them into the conference

I don't disagree with any of that.
I just don't think "strongest for them" means anything.
On a scale of 1000, Clemson is a 500 for them.
We are a 100. Florida is a 95. Kentucky is a 98. Missouri is a 95. Vandy is a 10. Etc..
We are no where near their Clemson level to them.
We are no where near DSOR, WLOCP, or COFH to them either.
We can agree to disagree. I honestly think South Carolina fans care about their home environment significantly more than they care about any conference rivalry.
They are just built different (probably because they joined in 1992).
