I had essentially no confidence going into the SECCG in either 2017 or 2018. I was firmly convinced Auburn and Alabama respectively would blow us out. I think it’s fair to say that (at least in ‘18) that was the case for most of the fan base, yet we outplayed both of those and won one.

I’m pretty convinced, as most are, that LSU will blow us out this year.

My question is - why is this year different from ‘17 and ‘18? Is it unreasonable to think that we could play the same high-level ball we played in each of those games?

We had a better offense in each of those years. Dependable, skilled, experienced RBs and WRs. The QB was serviceable in these circumstances because of the surrounding cast. He has proven this year he can’t shoulder the load with lesser support. Just ain’t going to happen.

The offenses on those teams were capable of sustaining drives. The defense this year is much improved over both teams, specifically the secondary and DL.

True (at least in ‘18), but we also have a better defense now than we did in either season.

Joe Burrow is playing the best football of his career.

Jake Fromm is playing the worst football of his career.

Our best WR won't be playing and our second best WR will miss the first half.

Our offense has been anemic all year and has never truly gotten into much of a rhythm. For us to keep this game close, our offense will have to click - WRs running sharp, precise routes with Jake hitting all open receivers in addition to a consistent rushing attack. We haven't seen any of this all year and I don't know why anyone would think it would happen on Saturday.

If we're gonna go to the Benz, may as well try and win the game.

If we can run the ball, which with our OL and backs, I feel a little optimistic. I think the plan should be to try and sustain drives and limit LSU’s offense time on the field. There’s no way we win a track meet with them. Their defense has given up points to inferior teams.
Should be interesting
