You're using anecdotal evidence. In Metro Atlanta shite is still open late. In vacation towns shite has been closing early since forever.
Walmart was cutting back on 24 hrs prior to the pandemic. As far back as 2015. LINK
Heres some anecdotal evidence for you,, Places are still open late here. Maybe move outta the shithole.

In NYC, restaurants are complaining because customers have changed and prefer to eat earlier now, so staying open late is losing.

The entire ATL airport has severe worker shortages. Thats not anecdotal.
