I have only been on a couple and the last was damn near a decade ago. We used some guy out of Beufort and I was not very pleased with the trip.

Can anyone here recommend a good charter out of Savannah/Tybee or somewhere close? I am not wanting to do inland. I glanced at some websites but you know how that is ....they are all the best charters and captains ever.

Anyone got charter service they recommend....must allow beer.

Thanks

Miss Judy Charters

I recommend the 14 hour gulf stream trip. Last time I went with them, we caught 23 mahi, 2 wahoo, and a couple yellowfin tuna.

It's all seasonal and weather dependent, and moon phases and shite.

No one else if you have to do Savannah or Charleston. Miss Judy has been in the game a long time and knows her business.

Don't go on a full moon....don't ever try to do any sort of sport fishing (or inshore fishing for that) on a full moon unless you are going on your own and it isn't a bucket list or once in a blue moon type trip. Pelagics don't feed on a full moon like they do otherwise....I have spent thousands of dollars over the years on Charters and I was partnered in a boat for 12 years in Stuart Florida and have done a LOT of fishing offshore for someone from the hills of North Georgia and from a blue collar back ground and I have never had a really good trip on a full moon. You will catch fish on a full moon but there won't be the numbers you dream of on a bucket list trip.

Good Luck! If you can make it to the outerbanks right now or even through the middle of September the White Marlin bite should be RED HOT...you will have a hard time booking a trip this late in the year but you might luck out and find a cancellation or someone looking for a make-up trip.

If you can wait until late September or October and can catch the mullet run off the east coast of Florida...anywhere from Brunswick to the Keys the fishing is UNBELEIVABLE....and there is a pretty good and little known Sailfish bite just offshore of Daytona of all places in AUgust and early September. I ain't a big fan of anything between Ocracoke and Brunswick anytime of the year (There is a good Cobia bite around Wilmington that is pretty impressive) but if it has to be Savannah Miss Judy is the best by a long shot...

If you ain't tied to Savannah and can wait until December there ain't a better place on earth anytime of the year to catch Sails than the Stuart, Florida area in December and January. It ain't for the faint of heart...6 foot seas are calm...but the numbers of Sails is UNBELEIVABLE and the boats are EXPERTS at catching them...miss the fill moon and you will raise double digit sails and land several all within sight of the hill most days and at prices that won't break the bank....

Man I want to go! Biggest mistake I ever made was selling my share of that hole in the water where money was thrown in Stuart LOL...

Thank you everyone for the replies!

Great info, German. I think you may have convinced me to find out where in the hell Stuart Florida is.

About 9 hours from Atlanta or a less than $300 flight (sometimes less than $200).

You won't regret it if you hit it just right...December to January and even into February some years...new moon...strong north easter blowing at 20-25 sustained and a nice drop in air temps and 5-8 foot seas not too close together and you will see hundreds of sails surfing the swells and wolfpacking bait balls...an amazing sight. Any of the boats that have been in business for more than 4-5 years know what they are doing...it ain't rocket science when the conditions are right...30-70 pound Atlantic sails ain't the brightest bulb in the fixture but they make up for it with attitude LOL.

The fishing in Stuart is pretty good year round....the sails are there all year and in the summer the seas are like a mill pong and the Dolphin are thick as fleas. Some fantastic inshore fishing as well....HUGE trout, decent redfish and one of the most untapped Snook fisheries in Florida. And Tarpon and Triple Tail all make for a fishermans paradise...and it ain't so far into south florida that you think you are in New Jersey....you can get Grits almost anywhere! On top of this it ain't far from Okkechobee and late in the sailfish season is prime time for pre-spawn largemouth and crappie fishing is on....

The only drawback is the fishing is best when there is a bit of blow....you definitely do not want to go during the height of the sailfish season in flip flops and a tank top...unless you like 70 degree water and 50 degree air temps and a howling NE wind and seas running to 12 feet (most boats won't go with much more than that...I have been and it ain't fun...but the fishing is GREAT!). This ain't the typical Florida boiling in the sun and sweating your arse off fishing...closer to duck weather than fishing....but the numbers are unbeleivable at times....I have been on a 26 foot boat by myself in 5-6 foot seas and hooked up double digits during the peak of the season....no more than 2 miles from the hill!
