Coming from you? Shocker.

quote:

Society is in dire need of mass testing

We have mass testing. We test more than any country in the world.
Do we need more? Absolutely. We need it to open for business. It is dire for the economy. Not to save our current population in our current quarantine.
quote:

Testing is especially important for medical professionals and people who can't isolate.

They are getting tested. That isnt the type of testing needed to get back to work though.

California is rolling out the antibody testing. I think they will be ahead of the curve in finding the best methods to get back to work. A lot of this is "firsts" for our country. You appear to think that everything should have been in place yesterday. Shotgunning resources also wastes resources. There has to be a balance and process to rolling limited resources out.

(This is why the best states for handling coronavirus are the best States for not looking for government handouts at every turn. The police dont prevent more crimes than they solve after the fact. If you want to prevent crime, it is up to the individual to take care of oneself. It is no different for viruses)

From every individual's point of view, no president's life trumps their own in importance. If Trump dies he has a replacement. If I die it's curtains.

Obviously we think more highly of our own lives....normally. I could argue about all of the selfless sacrifices people have made over the years...in war time, and even in every day life as they gave up their own for another persons. However, that isn't the point. the point is the country/Government values their lives over everyone elses, and we all know and accept that fact. If we didn't we would insist the country provide us with body guards.
I mean, you do realize in the bigger scheme of things they will go to much farther lengths to protect the President than they will you, right? I mean, it's not Trump specific. They would have done the same for Obama, Bush, Reagan, Clinton. The guests for all of them would have been tested before meeting the President in this same situation.

PLEASE tell me you don't believe Trump is insisting on this and the other Presidents would have been left to take their chances.

No, lots of medical people aren't getting tested at the frequency needed. You might not tune to a network that interviews doctors and nurses who are begging to be tested more but I do.

How often do they want to be tested?
Once a week?
Twice a week?

Facemasks. Handsanitizer/homemade hydrogen peroxide/everclear-goldengrain stations. Gloves for those who need them to stop touching their face.

Avoid public transit.

Still quarantine fevers, coughs, elderly, compromised.

Emphasize individualism (the more cautious, the less risk. Take it upon yourself to be clean and sterile.)

Bleach the shite out of public areas.
UV the shite out of areas that cant be bleached.

Yep. And this isn't unique to the United States:

Coronavirus: Testing and why it matters
The government bought three-and-a-half million antibody tests, but has not yet found one that is reliable enough to use.

They should have been better prepared in England.

Coronavirus: Doctors and nurses say tests are being withheld, PM says clinicians have enough swabs
But a Wellington GP, who spoke to Stuff on the condition of anonymity, said there were not enough testing swabs for the number of patients presenting Covid-19 symptoms. His clinic had ordered 30, but received five as the laboratory was trying to preserve supplies.

New Zeland, too? They should have been better prepared, too!

Over 100 Doctors and Nurses Have Died Combating Coronavirus Across the World

Number of doctors and nurses who have died from COVID-19

(as of April 4)

Italy — at least 66
China — at least 13
U.K. — at least 5
France — at least 5
Spain — at least 5
Iran — at least 3
U.S. — at least 1
Greece — at least 1
Poland — at least 1
Pakistan — at least 1

At least one in the united States?

30 Nurses, Docs Test COVID-19 Positive, Wockhardt Hospital Sealed

Mumbai? Wasn't anybody prepared?

There are a lot of links. Don't misunderstand....I wish everyone could be tested...especially doctors and nurses, but you have been saying the United States was the least prepared for this, yet I can find all kinds of countries that seem to be less prepared than us.

One of the links above even stated that Great Britain does not test because they have not found any tests that were accurate. Testing is not good unless we can have the utmost confidence that the test results are correct.

It's not so much that we were unprepared before the virus emerged. We wasted 7 weeks responding to the crisis after it became apparent that we were going to get hit. The federal government response continues to be terrible.

To get a balanced picture of the situation people should seek diverse sources of information both online and on TV. A lot of misinformation is being disseminated by politicians and news organizations. The best people to listen to are the medical experts.

Did you look at the links I provided? because most of those are new, too. Dude. We are in a terrible fix. Who is more to blame? I don't know.....but it might be the people who are responsible for getting it spread all over their city and state. Had they not done that, can you image how much better off our entire country would be right now?

Yes, I read your links as well as the LA times article that Deeprig linked.

Today there was a news report about San Francisco's amazingly small numbers of cases and deaths. If I remember correctly a big hospital in San Francisco prepared with 600 beds for coronavirus patients but only has 20 such patients today.

The LA Times story reported the first coronavirus death occurred in mid February.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported an earlier case from Santa Clara County of a man who had recently been to China. That case was reported January 31st. Scroll down to see that information.

The way this is panning out there are two outcomes as it looks like the severity is going to be less than anticipated. Either a) it’s determined this was never as severe as anticipated so we really overreacted or b) it was really bad but because we all locked down we turned the tide. I think the govt will fall back on b because the media is fully invested in Armageddon.

Either way...I don’t see how this plays negative for Trump except for the small % that always blames him for everything. He was either a) right from the beginning and the Fauci crew went overboard or b) he orchestrated the plan that saved us all.

Thoughts?

It's not easy to understand why San Francisco's experience is so much better than New York's. NYC is more crowded and everyone rides the subway. Reportedly, the NYC virus carries a different genome. It's just all so complex.

Theater.

When everything has a camera on it, when everything is being counted and scrupled, and the lights are shining on it, everything is bigger.

Theater.

I have explained this 25 times and I'm tired of explaining it. I don't get paid to explain this.

By this do you mean that NY is the center of the universe to the “media elites”, MSM and celebrity class?

No, not anymore than SF or LA.

When this ran through CA, there was no pandemic. There was no alarm.

It starting running through NYC a little later, after this was picked up as a big story. Im still skeptical on that.... not as bog in NYC as it seems, the data will show. Eventually.

All good points. I had been looking at it from the perspective that San Francisco has a much larger Chinese presence...but your points are well taken.
