One of the comments said the ship was designed to be fireproof using a lot of asbestos. I wonder whether a reef full of asbestos is a good idea.

That's crazy, all those ships are full of asbestos, probably what killed Steve McQueen.
I dove the HMS Tibbets in Little Cayman years ago. An old Russian Sub repuposed by the Tibbets family who owned much of the Caymans including Brac and Little Cayman.

Asbestos is bad only if you breathe it. I think it is ok to let it sink.
