Was at Loganville HS for a softball scrimmage yesterday and after I had an itch for some seafood specifically Crawfish or at least Shrimp.
A place popped up on google called Red Crawfish. So I said lets give it a spin....
Full disclosure I went in with our typical Louisiana attitude, skepticism and pre-conceptions any time we get crawfish outside of the mother land. I got the extra spicy knowing our levels of Spicy are a often different.
Highly recommend. They did a great job, lots of flavor, had good spice (extra spicy was just about right maybe a hair more would serve it well), cooked well, sides were good.
Also they had a nice menu of other items for the wife and daughter who wanted something else. Fish Tacos etc which wife said was good.
So if you are in the area and want some good boiled crawfish, done well.
High recommend Red Crawfish in Loganville.

Note - I have no affiliation at all. Just thought I would share a good Crawfish experience being "Tis the season"

Wonder how they handle out of season, if they adjust the menu or let people buy frozen stuff knowing it’s lesser quality

Great question. I assume (i hope) they don't boil out of season and just stick to crawfish dishes with frozen crawfish tails. If you get live crawfish in September. Chances are its from China.
They have pretty extensive menu.
Side note: talking to family back in Louisiana. Going to be expensive this year. The recent freeze that impacted Texas so bad also hit Louisiana and there is a large kill sadly. So they will be expensive and small this year.
Mother Nature basically killed a good crawfish season this year.

All but killed a good season in Georgia last year, too. Got really expensive in April because of the pandemic slowing everything to a crawl. Always was the worst part of going to Baton Rouge and New Orleans for football games, couldn’t eat in season. All the more reason why I’ve been wanting to head over for a weekend baseball series (don’t think we’ve gone to BR for baseball since Robert Tyler was pitching)

I drive by there a lot. I checked out the menu. What's a "Cajun Yum Yum Shrimp"?

Wait a minute, they got a fried oyster appetizer but no fried oyster option on the poboy menu? This is suspicious. I don't trust this menu.

Ha ha. yes a few items on the Menu got me a bit confused. Nothing drives me more crazy when I go to a "Cajun" place and Lobster Bisque is on the menu...
My wife said "They seem to have an Asian flair " with some dishes.
So refer to it as Asian/Cajun fusion ;-)
Its a beer drinking place for sure, so dont expect anything fancy. Want to try their wings one day if I am in town again. I am a big wings fan.
Ever in Watkinsvile, check out Doughby's get their Wicked Que Wings... Wont be dissapointed.

That place used to be some kind of chicken shack place?
Edit- yep that was the old "Chicken Express".
I'll definitely stop by on my next drive through Watkinsville. The new place looks haughty and respectable. I will traipse in wearing camo and smelling like a dead animal on my way back from Redlands WMA and sit down for a dank beer and wings. They'll look at me like an animal as they fry up skin/meat/bone in the back and never acknowledging their hypocrisy. And I'll write about it in my journal at the table and listen to Depeche Mode on the way home.
det det doot det.... doot det doot det....

Real close to you on Buford Hwy there's a respectable cajun seafood place up near the O'Reilly Auto Parts. Counter service, not really a hangout spot, but the food is good.
Edit 'The Crawfish Shack'

We've ordered from them on grubhub a handful of times. No complaints.

i only ever got a po boy or a fried shrimp platter, all good for me. I can't comment on the rest of the menu but other more exploratory coworkers never had complaints either. Always a good experience for all parties at lunch.
The thing about Buford Hwy, your food better be good because with all the competition, it can't suck or you are out of business real quick. Exceptions made for money laundering operations.

Actually it’s Oconee County... you will fit right in there
Lots of craft brews on tap as well
We go there frequently...
But you will be one of a few there wearing cammo :-)

How can you distrust anything that features "jalopeno" and "dungeonous crab"?

I'm a fan of the Crawfish Shack as well. Soft Shell crab poboy is nice there for a change of pace.
