I have some faith in the new management, or at least more faith than I had in Wren if he tried this kinda thing.
Not sure I agree with everything the new GM has done. For one, No way we shoud have signed Markakis. That deal has a very Dan Uggla...BJ Upton feel to it. It's probably going to end up being one of those contracts we want to escape somehow but are stuck eating it.
I also don't agree with the return that was recieved for JHey. I think JHey could have landed a better player than Shelby Miller not that Miller is a bad pitcher but his K numbers dropping so much is a concern. If Shelby Miller returns to form then it's a solid trade.
The best move he has made so far was trading Justin Upton and restocking a bare farm. Next up, Evan Gattis. Gattis has big time power and would be a great fit at DH. Some team should be willing to dole out a solid prospect for that and hopefully a power arm.

Justin Upton was a 1 year rental.
except for the fact he played 2 years for the Braves

Translation
His trade value is a 1 year rental. The team recieving has him for 1 year before they have to pay him.

Yes they are.
To clarify, there is no point in having a closer if you don't intend on competing for two years. Kimbrel is under club control for like 3 or 4 years which is ungodly for someone of his caliber. Some team who thinks a closer is their missing WS piece will give the Braves a kings ransom for him at the deadline.

I wouldn't say it' definitely happens, but there is probably a 50/50 chance he gets dealt.
No point in paying a shut down closer top dollar if you don't need a shut down closer (ie, spending a couple years rebuilding, which it looks like we are doing). By the time the team will be competing he may have passed his prime.

I kinda like it, actually. This team needed a complete overhaul and it looks like we are getting it. I think we are like 20m under what our cap was opening day last year. They are clearing a lot of cap space for something, we just need to hope whatever they end of using that on isn't a giant clusterfrick again.

Braves will want to keep Kimbrel. It's one of those players people will still pay to see and having him at the opening of the new ball park will be pretty important. They didn't go out and sign all the youth on the team long term just to give them away. The Braves want to be competitive by 2017 so they aren't going to tear it all the way down. Just removing some unaffordable pieces for pitching and depth.

If they intended on taking this route then they would have paid Heyward, imo. A shutdown closer is really a luxury that that Braves don't need for a few years, and Kimbrels contract like I said is very club friendly. I wouldn't be super surprised if we kept him but there will be a lot of teams that want him and will be willing to give up a ton for him.
