So now that college football is a game of $$$...
Do you guys think it's more profitable to spend money on recruiting or save that money and portal shop for pieces we need?
I ask because I feel like Kirbys strength was developing talent. In a world where kids want instant playing time and nil deals, I don't believe a lot of recruits are willing to sit and be developed any more .
Should we save our dollars for portal or continue to try and recruit at the top and develop?

I think we do it the way that is most effective long term. We recruit our asses off and use the portal to fill holes created by recruiting misses, transfers, or early draft entries.
Just look at Colorado and FSU as examples of why not to lean too heavily on the portal.

Don't know about that.
The safety here at Effingham County High now has a NIL deal. Holds many, many offers from SEC schools, Michigan, etc

Lane Kiffin seems to have the best formula, whatever his formula is. Ole Miss has been as good as anybody in the SEC two years in a row, and Miss hadn't been as good as anybody in the SEC two years in a row since segregation.

NIL will get interesting. All this NIL money is giving the people handing it out basically zero return. The NFL pays their players and the team profits and or value of the organization increases. Eventually, people will get tired of paying these extreme prices for a player that may or may not work out and who will likely be gone in 1 or 2 years.

Most of player pay is now institutional funding – "rev share" or whatever they call it. Been that way since last summer.
The theory is that now every program can do rev share, the portal is about to really become wide open and even more players will enter the portal. Some goofy state school like Rutgers or Mississippi State now can have $18 million baked directly into their football budgets to pay players and no longer have to pass the pot when they're trying to get a commit from some hot shite portal transfer.
