How we get Swift to stay

Posted on 12/22/19 at 5:03 am to Kneehigh
Does this mean we have to apologize for saying he was never a great RB after the SEC title game?

I will be glad to see Swift return but he needs to keep his confrontations about Fromm's play-calling private between himself and Fromm. That was a bad look during the GT game. Or at least wait until the next huddle and say something like: Hey Jake, you ran me right into their blitz.

Think that was A&M game

The Joey tweet got called out by papa swift as bullshite, said the conversation never happened. It was kind of awkward.

I’ll believe Swift is saying when I see it.
At the same time - holy shite, if Swift comes back...

Him coming back would be huge not just for his talent but his senior leadership on that unit. Otherwise you got one jr, one soph, and one (maybe two) freshmen next year.

Sure didn’t hurt Michel or Chubb!

OK, thanks for the clarification.

D’Andre and his Dad are clearly super tight. If that guy is telling the truth, that his Dad said he was coming back, then I’m leaning towards him coming back.
I feel that Swift slightly underachieved/didn’t meet expectations this year and he’s going to get a high 2nd round grade. I mean relatively it was a great season for 98% of RB’s in college football. But I was definitely expecting more than 8 TD’s, 6.5 YPT, more YAC, and several more explosive breakaway long TD’s.
If he does come back, it’ll be an absolute blessing for the prospect of next season. And, I really believe it would guarantee him a top-20 pick.

Swift’s Dad was adamant on Twitter that he didn’t tell dude he was coming back.

Wonder if Zachary Evans decision hinges on this

If Swift comes back, he may be the only the third most talented back we have. I love Swift, but a rehabbed Zues and Evans are exciting.

I've seen two mocks that have him going in the 20-25 range in the first round. It makes little to no sense for him to come back. There would be no benefit and there would be huge risk. Look at all the backs who have been injured just in this program. Zeus, Chubb, Marshall, Gurley, etc. A running back has a very short career as it is. Taking another year of beating behind a potentially weaker OL makes little sense.
Having said that, who wouldn't love to have him back.

The same can be said of almost any D1 football program.

Both probowlers. Exactly what point are you trying to make?

The point is simple. Go get your money and don't risk it for another year that won't mean much in terms of your draft stock. Running backs careers are short enough, and the less abuse they take en route to the NFL, the better.
As for those players, let's discuss them. Zeus has torn an ACL in each knee. One more, God forbid, and he's likely done. Gurley has an arthritic knee, the same knee with the ACL injuryL. Who knows how long he has left to play, and he's what, all of 25? Luckily he signed his big contract at the right time. Marshalls career was ended because of injury issues.
If Swift is a first or second round pick during a time where backs are not as valued anymore, it doesn't make a lot of sense for him to return. If he had a terrible year and was a later round pick, it might make more sense. Just one man's opinion, right or wrong. Even if he's a second round pick, that's still millions of dollars with a multi-million dollar signing bonus. That's still life changing money, unless you're already wealthy.

Based on what exactly? Thomas Davis had his ACL repaired 3 times and is in his 15th year in the NFL.

Again, based on what? You are such an emotional poster. What are you basing this on other than your feelings?

The Rams have really cut down his carries this season and their refusal to use him in the playoffs last year was alarming. HT didn't just make up the report about Gurley's knees. That's been out there since before training camp. They wouldn't have spent a 3rd round pick on a RB this year with their aging OL if they didn't have serious concerns about Gurley's long term status.
He's also down a full yard per carry from where he was last year. Part of that is their OL falling off a cliff and part of it is Gurley doesn't have the same explosion that he used to.

Thomas Davis is not a RB. Can you not understand the difference.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to the NFL or Gurley. It has nothing to do with emotion and everything to do with logic. He has bone on bone issue in one of his knees. There is real question about how much longer he can play, especially at his current level. His carries have been cut back. Forget about Gurley, even healthy running backs often don't have careers as long as many other players because of the punishment they take.
You seem to be looking for an argument when all I'm doing is pointing out facts.
