It's safe to say we lack the star power on defense in the front seven. We are young and haven't had that game changer emerge yet if he even exists.

I feel like the distance this team goes will be based on Kirby's ability to get this defense rolling. With Beck and the receivers I feel confident our offense will get the job done, but defense will make us or break us this year imo.

Will this be Kirbys biggest challenge from a coaching standpoint on defense?

I feel like he has a monumental coaching job ahead and can't wait to see how it plays out

I think we are missing Ingram-Dawkins raw power in the rotation atm

Conversely, maybe we need to put Jarrett in more to clog the middle with run heavy teams like UK

Personally I'm just glad the schedule worked out the way it did and we didn't have to go to Oklahoma in Week 2. At the time I would've been talking big shite and thought that there was no way we'd lose that game. But in retrospect it probably all worked out for the best lol.

Im really surprised Jordan Hall hasn't gotten more snaps. Yeah I know he's a tfr and raw and probably doesn't know all the plays and blah blah but as thin as we are you'd think we'd trot him out a little more and see what he can do

I like Hall as well and agree...maybe Kirby is giving a nod to the seniors on the Dline due to tenure

According to a text from my brother, who has access to the so_fl's site, he is getting challenged to perform. The text he sent me got me fired up.

quote:

Lawson Luckie to play, Micah Morris to get the start, coaches challenging Jordan Hall, similar to the buzz on Bear from last year, hope he responds differently. Apparently a Sunday meeting was had a la 2016 Chubb/Michel w/ Kirby/Chaney about the 2023 team's progression and the conclusion was to lean on Carson as he is ready, we shall see the response for 2023

You don't think they see what he can do in practice?
Bloody Tuesdays?

I can admit that I was way wrong about nose tackle.
Before Jordan davis, I would go on about how easy NT was. "You are either holding up a 2 gap or crashing through one". The playbook should be easy.

The reality and difficulty is that the offense is throwing different things at the nose. The nose has to read/recognize and win leverage with hand placement and tremendous technique.

It is a much more reactive position than I ever gave credit. And the best way to be reactive is to recognize tendencies in film and be sound in the counter techniques. "How do I not put myself in a position to not win". JD99 was able to leverage elite athleticism (he got away with playing high and peeking). But 9 times out of 10, he was shifting, twisting, or using his hands so a 2nd blocker couldn't move his hips.
