Murph actually breaks down the play in question later in the video, and I see his point. Says Stet made the "correct" read, as the DE was crashing inside toward the run, so that read calls for stet to keep and roll right.

Just unlucky that OSU had another guy in the stack waiting on the rollout.

Also, would have been a touchdown, 100%. Lol.

Wild that the correct read can be, in practice, the wrong decision.

That’s not unlucky…that’s OSU also being well coached. That’s a really good football team.

Defending stetsons read on the INT. I understand his point. But this is Stets 2nd pick in this same route this season. McIntosh sees the opportunity to climb overtop the defender and takes it. Stet throws flat right into the defender who is anticipating the back shoulder (again).

It’s the right read by the QB. You continue wheel if you have the angle. The DB totally had outside tech, when he does, you cut up the seam. And the ball comes to your inside. 6 tried to go to the wheel as the ball was thrown and the DB had eyes back. If 6 runs the right route adjustment he is in between the Db and the ball.

Oh, no doubt. Very well coached team, with a ton of talent. Just poor word selection on my part.

This just makes the win shine even more. We got the one team in the playoff that everyone, all season, said would give us fits. They were right.

They were wrong about how it would all play out.

Sure, they lost luster with the Michigan loss, but that was a great football team.

I disagree
The defender read "the read".
Throw the underneath and it is a contested ball. The DB was obviously waiting on it. Just like the prior INT on the wheel route earlier in the season.

It can't be the right read when the defender is sitting on the read.

"At the time, I felt like every possession was valuable, and I wanted to be aggressive," Smart said. "We called a play. They batted a ball. We called another play. He was in the pocket for a while and threw the ball a little high over the middle and put us at risk. I told him, 'If we're going to trust you do this in two minute, you've got to make good decisions. If it's not there, take off and run.'"

This is taken from this article . Kirby also said something to the effect of "if we are gonna win, we are gonna need Stet..."

Article also quotes Kirby as saying that the booth called down about that punt formation, and he decided to take the TO, even though he didn't want to burn the possession because three timeouts are needed to get the ball back on a late drive.

Article kind of highlights Stetson's struggles without detailing the UGA defense's shitting of the bed, which is both a flaw and a feature of the article, as the article is written to make Stet and Kirby look like the "Comeback Kids". Putting most of the blame on the defense for that 14 point deficit would dampen that narrative.

Kirby has this reverse psychology thing going on where if the team wins or if an individual player plays well, he downplays it or is overly critical of it. If the team loses or if an individual player plays badly then he'll defend the hell out of them.

Kirby the psychologist was my second thought concerning the Stetson criticism.

When we were behind 14 points late, TV cameras gave us some shots of Stetson sitting on the bench. It looked like Stetson was freaking out--his eyes were wild doing strange things. I bet that heart rate was higher than 180. There was probably a huge adrenaline rush that boosted performance.
