Just out of curiosity, and asking for your opinion...do you think the other teams did that to try to give their own defenses a rest and to slow the tempo of the game down, or were they REALLY that bad?

Both. Sometimes so bad that they couldn't even slow down the game.

Giving up 600 rushing yards is really that bad. No matter why the other team was running the ball.

At some point, when they moved to the backup to the backup to the backup QB, UNC had to recognize that it was going to be heavily run going forward... it's like that scene in Trouble with the Curve:
"Jesus Christ, he knows what's coming and he still can't hit it."
When you can't stop the run and you *know* with greater than 90% certainty it's about to be another running play and even if it's not, that the QB is not much of a threat downfield, you have a problem defensively.
