I'm learning on the go. Now know that teams who lose their first game are in deep shite and have to win 4 straight after that to the make it to the finals series.
Big game tonight!
how often does a team that loses its first game make it to the finals?
It is incredibly rare. Historically, a team that loses its opening game in Omaha makes it to the CWS Finals only about 7% to 10% of the time.
To put it in perspective: since the tournament adopted its current eight-team, split-bracket format in 1988, roughly 75 to 80 teams have made the Championship Finals. Out of all those finalists, fewer than 10 pulled off the feat after dropping Game 1.

Yeah I thought it was a best of 3 in the first round but apparently not. Huge game here.

Are you done with your independent research yet? You've had almost 2 days to work on this now.
What's the actual historical percentage?
