If he doesn't return this season, could Matthews get a redshirt?

Did he play in 3 or 4 games before he started missing games.
If it was 3 games, maybe we should shut him down and get him a medical redshirt for this season.
Thoughts?

If he didn't play in Tennessee, which I don't think he did, then he could apply for a redshirt if he misses the rest of the season.

They will use him "to give us the best chance of winning". Although I don't see much difference in any DB we have played to date.

Agree. Why burn a redshirt if he's already missed 4 games? When he was playing, he was often out of position and didn't have a clue about pursuit angles, etc.
The did's got a ton of talent, but his first three games showed a lot more potential, not enough actual.
As a true freshman who hasn't practiced in more than a month, and who is still hobbled by a hammy, why burn the shirt?
One thing's for sure, at this point he doesn't look like a 3 years and gone guy.

to get experience for next year, so he doesn't suck?

This is no place for good thought and reason...

5* players typically don't stay all 4 years, even if everyone with a brain can see they'd be better served sticking around in college. A lot of times, these kids have their minds made up they're playing 3 years then off to the NFL.
And, if Tray DOES live up to his massive potential, that's not really a stretch. Redshirting him is pointless. Do yall really think he'll be here as a senior? And do you really want to keep going to battle with Mauger and Moore at safety? I want our best players on the field that give us the best chance to win, period. If he can't play again until Auburn, fine, but I'd rather face auburn with him back there than someone else who stinks.
