why can't lanning be an exception too?

chaney- outlived his usefulness here and UT (a place he'd been before) practically doubled what we would offer.

tucker- older guy with a lengthy resume offered a HC gig at a big name P5 school. Lanning is young with a short resume. Not that it isn't good, but a school like colorado isn't gonna offer him a gig

OL- pittman is an arkansas guy and they offered him a lot of money to be a HC

coley- sucked

If lanning gets offered a HC job it'll be at a smaller FAU type of gig or something. He may want to go ahead and take it, who knows. But his situation is much different than those guys.

Comes down to Kirby's sales pitch vs Lanning's Agent + the offering school. Agreed though, he's young and too short of a resume to be likely to get an offer for a job that's actually worth taking. Would have to really luck into the right kind of job in the right situation I'd think. Not saying there's no way he'd take it, but if he walks for a bad to mediocre situation at best and an insubstantial pay bump, I'd be at least a little surprised.

Venables is being paid the same amount as a lower tier Power 5 school. Why take on more work and stress for the same amount of money? I could only see him leaving for a top ten Power 5 job.

This is how we keep Lanning. We've got the $$. If Kirby pushes I'm sure he'll get what he wants.

Lanning makes $1.25M/ yr. If a mid-tier P5 offers him $2.5M/yr it makes sense to take a 3 year chance at double the $$. We can alter that equation if we want to.

Just keep throwing titles on there to justify the pay increase.

Assistant to the head coach, etc..

Just so long as one of them isn't the famous "third assistant cocksucker in a Mongolian clusterfrick". He might not like that one, and if he does, that raises some troubling questions.

I don't know why he has never figured it out, but I hope he doesn't. Especially when we play him.

I hated 3rd or 4th and Granthams when he was with us, but now love them.
