While CMR makes $4-$5 million a year we have witnessed two players seriously injured this year.

It's not CMR's fault but I can't help but wonder about the money in this game and the sacrifices the unpaid players make merely for the potential glory.

I remember Beano Cook talking about going back to leather helmets and how that would reduce injuries. He had a point.

Coaches aren't students and students don't have to play football.

For the money the schools and TV make off these kids, the schools and TV should pay for insurance for the kids. Our coach is way over paid (and so are the the other coaches) and when Brent Musburger makes $2M a year for babbling, they can cut all their salaries to pay for this. I am not talking about paying the kids more but providing health and disability insurance for them. Or the loss of income insurance some of them have.

True.

Microsoft makes millions off what their employees do. So do all the other companies. Its not unusual for companies to make tons of money off what their employees do. Why is this an unusual concept for people to grasp?

Players are compensated with a free education. I paid for my son and my duaghter's education, and I can assure you, it amounts to a significant amount of money.

What kind of insurance did you have in mind? I ask because when a kid is injured the schools insurance pays for all of their bills. It does not compensate any lost income lost for not being drafted into the NFL for obvious reasons. Who knows who will be drafted and who will not? Will you compensate every walk on player for lost income when he has little to no chance of making it in the NFL?

This trumps all arguments that the players should be paid. Also don't forget scholarships. They are getting paid.

Scholarship student-athletes get paid the cost of their tuition, room and board, books, lab fees, meals, and a weekly stipend for laundry, snacks, and incidentals. Football and basketball players also get lots of shoes and clothes through the school program with Nike or whoever.
When I was in school on a baseball schollie I got only room and board and tuition and books. If I wanted spending money I had to, was able to, find a part-time job off campus. Some of the football players I knew then were given cash by donors and always had money in their pockets. But no deep-pocket donors followed the baseball program then.

The NCAA and individual schools can and already do pay for both disability and loss of value insurance policies for "top" players: LINK

I know UGA did this for Gurley: LINK
