Not sure that's a good idea. If you live outside that general area, it's a pain to get to from any of the other high population suburbs. Braves in Cobb worked because it sits right at the intersection of 3 major roadways. (285, 75, Cobb Pkwy.)

That's true for all expansion teams but hockey fans like watching hockey and they will show up if they put a competitive team on the ice.

Zero playoff victories over the 10 or so years the Thrashers were around isnt a competitive team.

Yeah this is false.

Yes.

Still, I can't imagine putting an arena in Alpharetta? That location sucks

Same thing was said about Truist/The Battery.

That tennis facility was a bad idea. Big Creek park is well supported in North Fulton and there isn't really a need for a mega tennis facility. The NHL team seems far fetched to me mainly because it's so far from the city. The only people that will attend are people that live in that area. Do they really have that many NHL fans in North Fulton and Forsythe county? It would be almost a 40 mile drive for me and there's no way that's happening during the week. To me it's kind of like the AAA Braves moving to Gwinnet. I wouldn't mind going to a game, but I'm not driving 1 1/2 hours both ways to see a game. It's too bad they can't do something like the Atlanta Knights at Phillips Arena. Those games used to be a blast to go to at the Omni and they were well attended.

Far more NHL fans in the northern burbs than near downtown Atlanta, or south side of Atlanta.

There are 4 hockey rinks on the north side of Atlanta. I dont think there are any south of the new rink off Roswell rd just inside 285.

IDK, the comparison to the Braves moving to Cobb is kind of a stretch for me.

That location is much closer to downtown and already had the luxury of having an established fan base. Setting up a hockey team in suburban BFE and having to build up interest for it might be a hard sell for a lot of folks.

There is literally nothing downtown, so I'm not sure why it matters. The people who attended Thrashers games before were from the same footprint of who are season ticket holders for the Braves. The proposed location is accessible from anywhere on the northside, which arguably, the battery isn't.

The battery is more centrally located compared to a facility in Forsyth county. That's what I was getting at.

The Battery is centrally located if you live in Cobb County, that's about it. Trying to get across the top end of 285 at 6pm is a nightmare. This arena is gonna be a grand slam, it's central in the fact that it's in the middle of Cobb and Gwinnett counties and accessible from Holcomb Bridge or HWY20 coming from Duluth, Buford, Canton etc. 400 north is not as bad as people make it out to be at rush hour. Once you get past Abernathy, it's pretty much a speed limit ride. Plus, they are proposing HOV lanes for 400 that will have exits directly to the arena. It will be extremely popular and I would bet that most hockey fans live within a 15 mile radius from the proposed arena.

Yeah this is a completely false statement.

It's centrally/conveniently located for everyone in the Cobb, Cherokee, Bartow Paulding, N.Fulton/Dunwoody corridor, thus why the Battery is located where it is. B/c the locations I listed are where the bulk of the fanbase lives.

Not coming west on the top end perimeter in the evening. You're going against traffic. And that's where most fans are coming from(or south from Woodstock/Canton/Cartersville )

This is true.

Just like the Braves fans/Truist. Though I think a 25 mile radius is probably more closer to accurate.

We will see. An NHL team is 100% coming to that arena.

I don't see it happening. It's just too far up 400. The 400 interchange may help things but traffic up there is terrible. I think the AAA Braves would have worked. I think the Gwinnett Stripers has largely been a failure.

I mean the proposal there would be to extend MARTA, having it end right at the arena would help massively and while we’re at it extend it to Cobb too. Of course this won’t happen because lots of people in the suburbs believe that this will magically turn their areas into the ghetto
