For better or worse, I like CKS’s approach to the portal and roster management

This was from a DN article:

quote:

Georgia had the smallest transfer portal class of any team in the SEC, adding only nine players. Smart didn’t want to flood the roster with new faces who could disrupt the returning players on the roster.

I couldn’t imagine anything more demoralizing to a player that committed to the G early, busted arse to get on the field and then have an older player come in from the portal and get shoved ahead of you on the depth chart.

It’s going to happen but at least that’s not the direction Smart wants to go for the most part. There has to still be some value in committing and working hard to improve and see the field. Watching these young players develop is part of the allure of CFB.

Same here.

I think this approach is best overall, but you are swapping experience/depth for roster harmony.

Not excusing the last two years of playoff early exits because of this. But Dabo seems to be taking the same approach and they aren't what they used to be.

Making it to the playoffs and not winning it all has to be DEVASTATING to accept as a fan.

Not at all. I'm not sure how you bridged my statement into being an all or nothing type of fan.

I don't think they lost to Notre Dame because of NIL. But Ole Miss isn't relevant without their aggressive approach to it.

Just saying that the difference in Kirby's way and how others approach NIL could be a difference. But as I stated previously, I prefer the way he does it

I think over the long haul team cohesion will show benefits.

Apologize. I did not mean to attribute my statement to your post.
