I would be surprised if that’s accurate. I don’t know how UGA could retain its team at that number.

My guess is the cost of retention is consistently underestimated.

It doesn't surprise me. Every team gets conference money, gate money, logo money. As far as I know, UGA doesn't have any billionaires who are all-in on contributions. Our crowd funding efforts have been lackluster. We haven't been aggressive about corporate sponsorships. We give away a home game every two years to Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech got paid $10 million to play UGA at Mercedes Benz. Auburn took a big paycheck to play the Baylor game in Atlanta. Georgia's fan base is so enamored with tradition that the concept of changing the way we operate is routinely rejected out of hand, at least by the folks on message boards. Maybe those attitudes will change when teams with more money start routinely pillaging our roster and results on the field suffer. Until then, I can't see any reason why UGA would be near the top of the list.

Yeah, I don’t believe that degree of discount is accurate. There’s no way we could keep Nate Frazier for $500k if OSU is offering $1.5M, for example. I could see UGA pushing that narrative as PR. I could also see UGA pushing the “poor us” narrative to help fundraising. A lot of schools do that.

I don’t think UGA is a top spender, but I would think they’d be closer to at least Alabama on the chart just based on roster quality.
