We have no reason to schedule GT...sorry, they aren't in the conference anymore and we gain NOTHING by playing em...sic of giving up a home and home date to somebody we get no credit for beating/playing.I'd rather play a big time intersectional opponent.

LSU pretty much dropped Tulane and Penn State stopped playing Pitt...nothing says we HAVE to play a team just because we're in the same state.

Be careful with that.

I understand what your saying, but from a UGA and GT perspective it's a windfall of cash for both schools. If it weren't, you would have seen a change in venue or game dropped entirely already.

Same with the GA/FL game. You can say what you want about Damon Evans, but he renogiated the contract with Jax to where it was more beneficial for GA when for years we were getting the short end of the stick money wise. Jax showed they were willing to TIITB without lube to keep that game.

Long way of saying that tradition and money will always keep the GA/Tech game on the schedule.

No different than an annual Clemson game would be in its place.

How in the world is it a cash windfall for us? Because the games sell out? Is there some type of big cash payout we get from playing @ Grant Field with a 53K (whatever it holds) gate?

We'd get a far bigger gate/guarantee if we played Clemson home and home or somebody like Michigan or Texas

Understand what your saying about Jax and it is well worth it to play down there because of all the guarantees we get from the city.

Yall can argue til you're blue in the fingers, but our biggest rival is tech and honestly it isn't really even close. My question would be for those who oppose, how many games have you been to against tech in atlanta? I don't see how anyone could possibly attend said event and not think they're the biggest. A few other reasons to support it being tech:

-The constant and never ending "TO HELL WITH GEORGIA". I'll be honest, that wears on a man after a while hearing that all the time. They have THWG plastered everywhere they can. Whenever we play they chant "What's the good word?" "TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!" "how bout them dawgs?" "PISS ON EM!"
-In the mid 90s a group of them painted the Arch yellow
-Our president at the time of the first football game wanted yellow/gold removed from our school colors (red, black, and yellow at the time) because it was too cowardly. Tech obviously embraces the color to this day.
-We had to end the series for a while after our boys went to fight in the war and they had ringers play football still. They're pussies
-The first meeting they were cheating, just like they cheat now, and used some old arse dude. I think he was like 40.
-When they finally beat us in 1998, someone in my hometown climbed up a fricking billboard and spraypainted it 21-19. I know that's personal and doens't mean anything to anyone else, but it shows something about the rivalry.
-Fans on their message boards were celebrating, like literally cheering, the last 2 times our mascot died.
-On MULTIPLE occasions, while walking around Athens on a gameday against them those fricks have had these:

printed out lying on benches.
-Their fight song mentions "dropping a battle ax" on Georgia's head
-In 1992 during the game in Athens, they covered up our midfield logo with a huge gold GT flag

But I think most importantly, you have to look at it at a deeper level. With UF, we may not outwardly acknowledge it but we do have SOME similarities between the fanbases. Sure they make fun of our red pants and we make fun of their jorts. But both schools like to party, have great athletics, are big 6 SEC members, and again I know NOBODY will actually admit it but there is at least SOME modicum of mutual respect. Not so with tech.

-Look at the damn name of the rivalries, one is "clean old fashioned HATE", the other is a frickin party
-UGA/UF fans intermingle and party for a week. I have never ever seen this at a tech game
-There are more fights at the tech game than I see anywhere else. Back in the day of trains we even followed their players back to their train and pelted them with rocks and other debris. Worst thing that typically happens in jax is a fight at the landing.
-And I think to sum this all up nicely, we are just fundamentally different. They're urban, we're rural. They're nerdy, we're not. They're antisocial and awkward, we're not. We drink beer, they drink zima. We play sports, they play D&D. They're ugly. They're annoying. Their stadium is small and shitty, ours is big and awesome. Their campus is in the heart of the ghetto, ours is the best college town in America. They are essentially the opposite of our entire way of life. Yeah I hate florida, but I can at least a little bit of myself in the UF fanbase. The only positive and redeeming quality I can say about tech or their people is they're smart. But big deal, since our school is very good as well.

So Tech doesn't like us. Thanks for the hard hitting journalism. How does USCe feel about us? At worst number 2 on their rival list. They are at best 4th with us. Just because they hate us a lot doesn't mean they are our top rival.

WG, where are you from?

Sigh..I pointed out many different reasons why they're our biggest rival aside from just they hate us. Which btw they hate us FAR more than any other school or team does.

So? We can lay claim to being the #1 or #2 most hated team for tech, UF, SC, AU, with the outside shot (depending on who you ask) with UT and Clemson as well. That doesnt' mean anything other than people don't like us and we have long histories with people. But you won't find the deep seeded hatred that I described in my post with those others.

I know, which is why I described many more reasons as well.

Windfall could be a little strong, however, they would make more money versus playing somebody like a Michigan home and home for the simple reason of traveling expenses. Again, my post was about both GA and Tech. Not sure how much they pay each other to play each year playing. But the Tech game is a built in $ amount every year. It would take a consistent scheduling effort by the athletic depts. to bring in that amount of cash for each school every year scheduling other opponents.

I guess what it amounts to is "a bird in the hand" philosophy for both schools. Also, the people making these schedules live in a different environment than we do where scheduling Tech is a big deal.

I get everything. My point is there is not a clear cut number one rival. His dismissal of anybody thinking differently of him is what got me started.

Well, I know enough about UGA and have been around UGA enough to know what the school's biggest rival is. And it's tech.
