It is a shame how Mullen gets a pass and is considered a genius someday coach.
He is malzahn 2.0.
With a great QB, he can be unstoppable. But without the NFl talent, he is average as grits.

why is mullen a genius and kirby considered to be a bad game coach? im not even really defending kirby as much as shitting on mullen.
the first drive of the game was absolutely horrific preparation/composure from florida.

Kirby isn’t a great in game coach but neither is Mullen. At least Kirby can recruit and coach defense

im fine with this assessment, but that doesnt address why mullen is viewed as a tier or two better than he actually is. is it because he's had lesser talent and done well enough?

how i value a CFB coach
1. Recruiting
2. Elite Offensive Mind
3. Elite Defensive Scheme
4. In game coaching decision making
those have to be the 4 biggest components to a coach. kirby is elite at 1 and 3, and average at 4. he needs to hire the right guy to cover #2.

I think Mullen carries a lot from his years with Meyer and seeming like he did a lot at MSU (which he honesty didn’t but everyone remembers that one time he had them ranked #1 for a week and forgets why or how or what happened next. And since he stayed in Starkville for so long before finally leaving, the spin was that he was waiting for this opportunity and with all the talent in the state of Florida he wouldn’t even have to recruit super well to make it work with his uber offensive expertise.
He has basically built a reputation on smoke and mirrors and since the state of Florida is trash at football right now he has gotten a pass from their media

Mullen won his reputation with Alex Smith, Dak Prescott, and Tim Tebow. But he can't coach a QB up. Only sideways. A QB genius would have known Trask was better than Franks and played him more in easy games.
What we did see today is that our DBs aren't SEC ready. Burrow or Tua will eat us alive.
