I don't live in an HOA and likely never will again. I only have once ever but it was a perfectly unremarkable experience. I just personally don't want to have to ask permission to do stuff if I want. What really gets me though is the absolute sheer hatred they get from people who willingly and consciously made the decision in sound mind to purchase a home in one.
