I just think players should have to own it if they quit.
They have every right to sit out the bowl game, but call it for what it is.
It’s not a business decision. They quit. Pretty simple.

Don’t blame him. He could lose millions if he gets injured in a bullshite bowl game.

I think not playing is the right decision for an early round draft pick that doesn’t have anything left to prove. He only had something to lose by playing and getting hurt because the game is pretty meaningless. He was an unheralded guy that has worked his arse off and given a lot to the university and is likely conflicted about the decision so I don’t see a reason to take him over the coals. The bowl system is going to change dramatically over the next decade or two as the playoffs likely expand. Also him sitting out opens the door for guys that really need the reps.

Baker has turned selfish. Your excuses for his case make me sick. He's turned his back on the fans, his teammates and on his coaches. He is not a DGD.

He couldve gotten injured on the plane or getting off the bus. That is a loser's mentality.
But it is a free country. He has every right to have a loser's mentality.

This.^
Ten players on the field for every defensive play helped Baker develop into a 1st round draft choice. He just spit in the face of every one of them, and every coach and fan. I wish Kirby would put him on a Greyhound back to Athens and tell him to have his locker cleaned out before the team gets back. Maybe Fields' mamma can help him pack.

Alabama Cowboy, You ever see this type of thing in Nam? Where some cowards would refuse to fight and would hide in the back once they got short and were close to being discharged?

Yep. Made them walk point for a week.
Edit:
When I had a man within 2 weeks of rotating out I cut them some slack. They usually spent their last week on sick call.

Why even play this season? He was considered a first rounder in July. He should have just quit then.
At least he doesn't have to play in such a meaningless game like the *checks notes* Sugar Bowl.

Why should he risk being able to comfortably support his family the rest of his life to play a meaningless bowl game? We have other CBs, we will be fine.

Spot on.

You basically just said you “respect” quitting.
I respect him making a financially sound decision by not risking injury that could cost him millions. If that makes him a quitter in your eyes, then so be it.

a meaningless bowl game
I mean, if you're just looking for a check, all college games are meaningless.
If he had beaten Alabama, I wonder if he would've sat out of the playoffs, too. Y'know, because money.

You put it on the line for a championship, not for the sugar bowl against a 4 loss opponent.

Sure he would have. He was also playing for a championship, which we choked away in typical UGA fashion.

You’re struggling here. He’s shut down his side of the field for two years, he’s done enough. Next man up.

Maybe he should quit lifting weights. Jordan Davis got hurt.
It is a loser mentality.
You miss every shot you don't take. And Deandre is excercising his right to not shoot for the bowl game.

I am not saying whether i agree with his decision or not. As a fan I would like to see him play.
That said, if he had a career ending injury would you send him a big check to cover his losses, or would you "turn your back" on him?
A big part of this could possibly be avoided if the schools took out a big insurance policy based upon projected career payouts on the top players.
For most of us, if it came down to protecting our careers, providing for our families etc, we would make the same decision. It's hard to blame him, but I hate to see this become a trend.
