I think going into the year the NIT was probably about the ceiling best case scenario anyone could have expected. We started hot, fizzled, but got a big win this past weekend with some winnable games coming up. I don't ever see us mentioned as even being in NIT contention so I looked back at the last 3 years and who were some of the last SEC teams to slip in. Records listed are at teh conclusion of the regular season, then the second is prior to the NIT.

2022
Vanderbilt: 15-15 (7-11) // 17-16
MSU: 17-14 (8-10) // 18-15

2021
MSU: 14-13 (8-10) // 15-14

2019
Alabama: 17-14 (8-10) // 18-15

Currently we are sitting at 15-10 (5-7). Our remaining schedule has very winnable games vs LSU and @SC, decently winnable games at home against UF and Mizz, and likely losses at bama and arkansas. Let's hope/assume we can split the winnable ones which would put us at 17-14 (7-11) heading into the SECT. All 4 of the teams referecned above won at least 1 SECT so that seems to be a major factor. All things considered we very much have a chance for postseason play in the NIT but we're going to have to win at least 2 more games it looks like. Man those tech/ole miss/vandy losses are sure hurting bad now but I'm still really pleased wiht what White is doing.

Good post. As a non-basketball fan that occasionally looks at scores, I was curious how White was doing in his first year. Sounds like it's going well.

it's definitely going well taking everything into account. The biggest issue we've had forever is a lack of talent on the roster compared to the big boys in the league, and that's no different today. Granted that's not white's fault, and he also lost a pretty good freshamn recruit to the portal after the season began. Despite that, we're performing much better and actually pulling out some wins that we generally seemed to have lost in prior years. There's no doubt White can coach so the next hurdle will be to see how much and how quickly he can upgrade the roster. If he can get some big recruits (or transfers) in to match his coaching we should be in good shape.

Thinks we got the right corch. A couple of hits on the recruiting front would be nice. He can coach'em up!

This team has more quality depth than any team we have ever had in my opinion. We are one or two studs away from being a tournament team.

Mike White seems like a non-nonsense guy that can coach hoops. I had heard Fl didn't think he could recruit but in this day and age you don't have to recruit all 5 stars to have a successful program. I think White just needs to instill some culture and passion back into hoops. The NIT would be a great accomplishment for this program and we could only be a year away from an NCCAA bid.

White's only problem at UF was that he isn't billy donovan. I think UF had been to like 5 NCAATs before his arrival. They'd been to only 2 swet 16s and one elite 8. Then of course he became like their spurrier or saban or whatever comparison you want to make, and the UF fnabase then just assumed that they're the same echelon as kentucky/kansas/duke/unc which they clearly are not. White took them to the tourney almost every year but because they never made the final 4 under him they felt he wasn't good enoguh.

Hey their loss is our gain though.

Now we are at 16-10 and 6-7. Already have more wins than MSU in 21 and that is even AFTER the SECT concluded. Only one of those teams (Vandy last year) had less than 8 SEC wins entering the SECT so that looks to be our giant hurdle, since our overall W/L is pretty decent. We're lkely losing our next 2 so we HAVE to have at least one among Mizz, UF, @SC. 2 would be terrific but idk if we're capable. If we just win 1 more the rest of the way that'd put us at 17-14 (7-11) entering the SECT which would be really iffy. Would likely take a couple wins there to make the NIT in that case.

Our NET hurts us. I swear it’s always had it in for UGA. They’ve had us lower in NET than KenPom/Torvik for like the last 4 years or something
