I know, frick Oliver.

But he made a good point on the radio today.

When people have reservations about coaching changes, one of the rebuttals is "who do we hire?"

His answer is "Who couldn't win 9 games a year at UGA?"

Donnan averaged 8.something wins a year, and now Richt averages 9.something

Why are we so afraid?

You have to be more specific with these people. Remember, the 12th cupcake game was added during Richts tenure, it is slightly misleading to compare him to Donnan. Its better if you compare losses like I did in the other thread.

Donnan: 3.8 losses per year
Richt: 3.2 lpy
2010-2014 Richt: 4.2

Donnan didn't have an extra game, or he may well have averaged nine wins a year....

Our schedule is such that 7-8 wins a year is a let down.

We have 3 rent a wins every year. We have Vandy and UK. That is 5.

We now have Missouri. That should be a win 8 of 10 years

The Same with Tech

We will have one of the Mississippi schools or Arkansas more often than LSU and Bama.

We should win 2 of 3 against Texas AM

And we should split with Auburn and UT and UF. In any given year that we don't win 9 games it is because we lost to someone we should have beaten. Our schedule is a 75% win anyway you slice ut, on average.

We don't usually have three rent a wins though. Usually we have another P5 game to go along with Tech.

Haven't we stopped this now? Are there any on the horizon? I'm too lazy/busy/tired/etc to look it up myself...

its not just how many you win, its who you beat. Richt has winning record against AU, UT, GT, and has more wins against UF than Donnan and Goff combined (just a guess, not looking that shite up, but it sounds good) and has turned around the bad juju in that series.

We probably average one every other year or so. Those games have resulted in a lot of losses for Richt. Colorado, Ok State, 2013 Clemson, etc.

North Carolina in the dome next year.
We have Notre Dame on the road in 2017 and home in 2019
UCLA in the early 2020s

Richt has been fortunate that those schools have been dumpster fires for several of the past years.

Richt also won the SEC twice
Two sugar bowls
Play away from the natty
And has had Georgia as a national title contender multiple times

This comparison is stupid as frick

This is true, but as already proven in other threads, GTU, UT, and UF were much better in Donnan's days as compared to Richt's group over the past 4-5 years. I bet its similar when looking at the championship years of 2002-05.

This isnt even true for UF. See 2002, 2003, 2014.

We have been contenders plenty of times, sure. Pretty sure that's why folks are angry on the whole delivering on said contention.

If Richt quit tomorrow, because of Cancer or Jesus or some non-football related reason, and you had to find a new coach, and you had three of your favorite resumes in front of you, and you are the AD.... you have to make a decision.. and you pray about it... you pray to God for a sign... imagine if a visitor from the future and/or and angel visited you in your office, and told you that one of those coaches would go 10 years without an SEC Championship.... you ask about the other two resumes, and the angel/futurist declined to tell you their futures.... would you hire the guy guaranteed to not win the SEC for the next ten years? Or would you roll the dice with one of the other unknowns?

I want you to think about this. I want you to be a big boy. I want you to think about this, and reply back. Not tonight. I want you to think about it and sleep on it for a night. Or two nights. Or however long it takes you to give this scenario the deliberation it deserves. Then I want you to come back and share your thoughts. Not your feelings, your thoughts.

Am I asking too much from you?

If such a wager were possible, I'd bet that Chef Leppard as head coach could keep us bowl eligible.
