Uh oh....

I was trying to agree with you that games don’t include SEC teams are incredibly rare but was trying to think of instances they have happened.

Think it was also on CBS when A&M was the home team.

I mean, Verne Lundquist legitimately told me a month ago they were going to be at this game.

ut now since I asked, I’ve learned the truth that only the geniuses know....which is that it’s only SEC vs SEC 99.999% of the time.

Doesnt take a genius to understand the SEC tv contract

That's awesome, where did you see Uncle Verne? I'd love to see his ole decrepit butt back in the booth with Danielson and Nessler for the nostalgia. Throw Blackeledge in and I'd swoon.

I mean I've seen Dawg fans think NBC has rights to the game IN Athens. I know plenty of folks that don't know CBS doesn't get the earlier games. Hell, I only recently learned that the reason the SEC never gets an ABC game (outside of CBS getting first dibs) is that it's exclusively B1G and ACC and I may even be wrong about that.

It's not the easiest to understand with all of the fluctuation. I think Fox even sold off some of their Big 12 rights to ESPN or I may have been making that up.

Way I understand it is that CBS gets first pick of any SEC home game weeks 3 onward. CBS will sometimes buy in to week 1 and 2 but ESPN/ABC usually takes on the OOC games.

Now we’re getting somewhere.

The 3:30 time slot sec game contract used to always be delayed a week or two into football season because CBS had the rights to the US Open tennis festival. Which they covered forever.

They lost those rights to Espn a few years ago though..... which would explain most all these examples of OOC cbs sec games mostly happen to be week 1 games within the past few years.

DGD, I am almost ready to declare the following statements as an official explanation for the very few SEC OOC games to ever be broadcast by cbs. Hear me out...

-the long running cbs 3:30 sec contract does not begin until week 2 or 3 (because of tennis history)
-once it begins cbs has exclusive rights to any sec vs sec game it wants.
-HOWEVER!!!!
-during the one double-header option per season, cbs may select ONE game that is sec vs an out of conference opponent
-think about it!!!!

Your thoughts?

This would explain why it’s a recent phenomenon. As well as why it’s only UF/FSU....COFH.....or NOtre Dame....outside of the new week 1 tennis vacancy add-ons

Tarzan, You read DGD’s post wrong.

Allow me to translate...

DGD is a very polite person, so when he lightly and politely pushed back on you for being a dishonest flat dullard....it was basically the equivalent of him spitting on you and calling you a retard.

Ask Verne this...

“Has cbs ever done an SEC vs OOC opponent game outside of week 2 that was not part of the one double-header allowed per season?”

If he answers “no” and then asks you how you cracked the code.... just raise a clinched fist slightly above your head and nod, then walk slowly away

Right. But was this part of the one allowed doubleheader cbs game per season. Did cbs also do iron bowl on same day.

That is the common theme in the code. Which was just cracked. Coincidence or otherwise

Saw him coming off the golf course. I’d had a couple beverages at that point and he was already visiting with some family friends of mine so I went up, said hey to him and talked football/SEC/Tiger at the Masters for 5-10 minutes.
