What’s big to note. For the first time since I believe 2010 the Bama vs LSU game will not be the CBS 8pm game. This also likely means that UGA vs ND will be at 8pm with UF/UT or A&M/AU at 3:30.

I’m very excited as I was worried CBS would stick with their previous precedent and play Bama/LSU at 8 and put Georgia vs Notre Dame at 3:30 so I’m pretty relieved they made the right choice here.

Yeah, I actually talked with Uncle Verne about it a month or so ago and he’s going to make an appearance at the ND game if all things go according to plan. Really excited they made the switch here.

It's a no brainier and will likely be the highest rated game of the regular season.

Do we know for sure CBS has rights to this game? I thought CBS only had rights to conference games

Trying to remember a regular season example of CBS broadcasting anything but SEC vs SEC. And can’t think of any.

They've done UGA/GT several times. Off the top of my head, they've also had Auburn/Louisville, WVU/Tennessee, Florida/FSU, UCLA/A&M, etc...

CBS has done several UGA-GT games, but not for a while I think. They definitely have done things like A&M-UCLA and I think an Arkansas non-conference game a few years back.

Pretty rare, but it has precedent.

As long as it is a home game for an sec team in regular season, they have a crack at it.

That’s right. I don’t. Which is why I asked about it.

I go by the fact that 100% of every time I turn on cbs at 3:30 it’s always been SEC vs SEC. But now since I asked, I’ve learned the truth that only the geniuses know....which is that it’s only SEC vs SEC 99.999% of the time.

Think they did West Virginia vs. Tennessee last year and have done UGA vs. GT in the past.

I might be wrong, but I think when the SEC team is home, CBS has the option to choose that game.

UT-WestVA was a neutral site opening week game in Charlotte though.

I don’t understand. Tarzan tried to make it sound like the cbs tv contract is crystal clear to everyone on earth except total dumbasses.

Yet, here we are with zero concrete explanations and now claims in here that the home team has to be SEC were just proved wrong.

Maybe Tarzan can google search for it and then pretend who knew the details all along..

One of the other examples being given as proof of the out of conference option is fishy as well...

UCLA vs A&M 2017 was a Sunday game on opening Labor Day weekend. Not exactly part of their normal SEC package.

I’m trying to learn about the cbs contract. That’s what the OP is about.

Please join Tarzan at the kids table.

More discrepancies....

A&M UCLA on cbs was at UCLA. Aggies were the visitors.

Looking more like cbs has separate deals with separate rules for opening weekend than the 3:30 contract.

I’m searching but I still haven’t found a recent COFH game on cbs.

I know 2004 UGA/GT was on CBS. I think 2002 was as well. Notre Dame @ UT in mid 2000s (2004-2006?). Then FSU vs UF but I don't remember when.

Way I understand it is that CBS gets first pick of any SEC home game weeks 3 onward. CBS will sometimes buy in to week 1 and 2 but ESPN/ABC usually takes on the OOC games.
