Every defense’s total points allowed on the season when playing a 15-game season (which has only happened in the CFP era):

2021 Georgia - 153
2016 Alabama - 195
2018 Clemson - 197
2019 Clemson - 203
2015 Alabama - 227
2017 Georgia - 246
2016 Clemson - 270
2018 Alabama - 271
2021 Alabama - 302
2015 Clemson - 325
2019 LSU - 328
2014 Ohio State - 330
2014 Oregon - 354

*of note, 2017 Alabama didn’t make the SECCG, so they only played a 14-game season to win the title that year. However, they allowed 167 in those 14, so we still top them.

Also scored a lot of point or gave the ball back to the offense deep in opponents territory guaranteeing points.

Good point. By the time you factor in defensive and special teams scores and times the offense was given the ball in the red zone (essentially guaranteed 3 points at that point), the offense probably only needed to score about 10 points per game of their own volition to outscore opponents on the season overall.

"UGA's defense is not one the greatest to ever set foot on the field"

Go post this on tRANT and watch the haters pile in.

What is incredible to me is that we played two playoff games and only gave up one TD each game. By the time you get to that point, it’s tough to keep teams out of the end zone without a great defense.

This is especially important as offenses today are much more explosive than they were 10+ years ago.

Good shite, I definitely think ours is the best defense since the 2011 Bammers.

Absolutely. I wonder how that defense and the 2011 LSU defense that wasn’t far behind would’ve handled modern offenses, but I think in a vaccuum, you would have to call that 2011 Bama defense the most recent defense that’s even comparable to 2021 Georgia.

Speaking in general I can’t imagine the offenses 10 years ago being anywhere as talented and sophisticated as they are today? I mean you had teams here and there like Nebraska, Oklahoma, USC, and some of those Florida teams, etc. that were great offensively, But most teams were run oriented and low scoring.

A while back..I pulled the last how ever many years and looked at point totals for all and the top 10 ten team…will see if I still have.

It wasn’t what I expected.

That's awesome. Kirby did it "his way." I didn't think elite defense could beat elite offense anymore but glad I was wrong. I still hope we focus on improving the passing game and getting more elite WR's. As Bama has shown, elite WR's give you a huge advantage with all the rule changes and way the passing game is being used. This D is amongst the best all-time of any time. The SECCG being the one outlier.
