Have to admit, I haven't eaten breakfast up there in a few years. Last time I did, Mama's Boy was really good. You guys remember Shoney's breakfast buffet they had on weekends up on Atlanta Highway? That was awesome. We also used to really like Bluebird Cafe. Man I'm getting old. I think I can count on 1 hand the # of restaurants and bars that are around from the time I was in school.

Strickland's on Atlanta Hwy is a local favorite. But those large buttermilk biscuits at Momas Boy are incredible.

It is funny nobody said The Grit.

There is also a good place called Heirloom in Boulevard n'hood on Chase that has good breakfast. They have a chicken biscuit with 'minner' cheese that is so sloppy you have to eat it with a fork. It is great.

Golden Pantry on Hog Mountain road in Oconee county has been my go-to for the last few years. Stay with SIL who lives nearby.

Country fried steak or chicken biscuit.

I used to stop there regularly on a Monroe commute, many years ago. The biscuits weren't bad, but the coffee was awful. The people were friendly and it was an old timey feel, for a gas station. You talking about the place with the big smoker around the side?

I was surprised when I learned that the Mayflower was still in operation. I used to go there for a platter of sizzling steak and fries 51 years ago. A while back I visited their website. Not much has changed.

I hate that Allen's is no longer. I often had Allen's hamburger steaks and cheap draft beer.
good stuff

Herbie's was the GOAT

when I went to UGA (87-92), Mayflower had a meal plan that students could buy, anyone know if they still do that?

a few months ago I came across an old box full of bank records from my college days

there were DOZENS of checks written to Waffle House for between $2.50 to $4

and yes, that would have included a decent tip of $1 or more...

Dr. Shu is/was a political refugee, former nuclear scientist for Chinese government. Not even shitting you. He was the old yoda looking dirty unkempt man with the thick glasses that spoke zero English. He actually had a hit out on him. China Boat in little old Athens GA was the perfect cover.

True story.
