So its the mayors role to advise everyone that freezing temps and water make ice? And that Atlanta is prone to traffic?

ALERT!! ALERT!!!!! ALERT!!!!!!

-When the temps get above freezing soon all of that ice and snow will turn to water! Repeat! The process will reverse itself!!!

-All suburban yuppie fly-Flisherman should be careful of potential swift currents, flooding potential, and high water-levels should they embark on one of their fly-fishing orvis-costume adventures!

THIS HAS BEEN A MESSAGE TO IDIOTS FROM YOUR IDIOT RULERS. P.S. BOILING WATER IS HOT. AND DON'T TRY TO WARM YOURSELVES BY SITTING IN YOUR GARAGE WITH THE DOOR DOWN AND THE ENGINE RUNNING. OVER............

You're missing my point entirely, which is pretty much par for the course.

Page 2. This is what the mayor, or governor, or authorities in general should have come out with the night before:

quote:

"Hey guys, it's gonna get pretty hairy around noon tomorrow. So we suggest that you just stay home, work from home if you can, so that we can keep congestion to a minimum."

More businesses would have changed their strategies and had their workers work from home or just not come in at all. Would have definitely helped.

I'm just saying he should have put out a statement suggesting that people stay home on Tuesday.

Wasn't WSB, Weather Channel, and Fox5 already telling people this?

If mayor or other authorities in general told people to stay home, how would people have gotten that message if they weren't already watching WSB, TWC, or Fox5, all of which had the red warning scroll for a winter storm warning?

Do you understand my question? Do you see where I'm going with this?

You seem to believe in a fundamental power of a leader, you seem to have some faith in the benevolent power of authority, I think it's probably because of your age. Up until the day you graduated college, pretty much every decision in your life was made for you, by some authority. Professors, teachers, school administrators, parents, etc. I'm not singling you out specifically, I'm saying that's the case for most people your age. I think that is the reason people like you seem to think this is some kind of failure by the authority, even though authority had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I think the only failure of authority here is what Finley Street said, and that's the local school systems. They have snow days built into every school year, when there is a winter storm warning, you cancel school.

The ultimate authority is that of the parent. I know there are exceptions, but for the most part, the parent should be responsible enough to know it was a stupid idea to send your kid to school that day, and a stupid idea to make your 52.1 minutes commute to your job when there is an active winter weather warning. Not advisory, a warning.

This has nothing to do with DOT, Deal, States of Emergency, or Kaseem.

It's like the "Grantham should have told JHC to bat the ball down" argument.

More businesses

My business and the school my wife works at had meetings and scheduled shutdowns the day prior. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't watch the weather channel and make sound judgement when dealing with a storm in cities in which you are not prepared. The bridge into and out of our town has also been shutdown all day. No coming in and no going out to include I10 a major interstate. Just because the governor or a politician makes a suggestion doesn't mean people will listen. Considering it was all over the news I assume people are just idiots.

None of this is about me. None. Like I've mentioned before, I left before the snow came and got home early. I didn't need someone telling me to get home early or stay home at all. This is where you're missing the point entirely.

It would have GREATLY benefited the city if there was a simple statement. You're blowing this way out of proportion.

Fully aware of this. But there would have been a lot of people that would have seen it and heeded the advice given. At worst it's a preventative measure. It's not a command.

No, that would have only given them an "I told you so". The outcome would have been no different.

You put too much faith in the power of authority if you think a simple statement would have had any benefit at all.

I'm not putting faith anywhere. More people would have stayed home or left earlier had there been a statement suggesting as such. There would have been benefit in that. Period.

"Hey boss.... it's deeprig... yeah, I know about the Winter Storm warning, and the weather guy is saying it would be a good idea to stay home today. But I'm going to ignore them, and I'm coming to work anyway. Until the mayor makes some kind of a statement, I'm going to go ahead and come into work."

"Sweetie, I think we should send the kids to school this morning, even though every TV station and every social media post on our facebooks are talking about the winter storm warning, because the 8th grade math teacher who went back to college to get her PhD in education so she could win her 800 voter district school board election has yet to make a decision on closing the school today and I trust her, she has a PhD in education and is on the school board, and she was also really nice to me when we talked at the Fall Festival last year."

It looks like we could be in for some more of the same toward the end of next week, I think this would be a good time for Mayor Reed to make a statement.
