Tucker Maxwell just crushed a 3-run homer. He's on fire.

About put that one in the backyard of the green house.

Agree with TV announcers, I can’t see him not being SEC Player of the Week. Absolutely a 180 from his usual bunt single/SO routine he has been known for

On a slightly smaller scale, John Cable has also caught fire at the DH spot

8-1 Dawgs now in the 6th

Make that 7 full and 9 Ks for Locey and he still has 15-20 more pitches in him

Averaging barely over 4 pitches per out through 7 for Locey. Very nice!

Did a little digging and this start matches our best since 2009 when we also went 14-2.
If we beat State midweek, 15-2 would be the best start I believe in program history.

Fire Stricklin.

Thought I’d provide a look at our plate performance thus far:

- Right now our starting lineup is batting .333 which is stellar but have to anticipate that bats will go cold at some point. They always do
- We have 3 guys averaging 1.2 OPS and 5 who are above 1. Just for an MLB comparison, only 4 MLB players had an OPS above 1 in 2018 and 2 of those were league MVPs. So, we’ve got a number of guys hitting well in clutch situations (not just 2-3)
- By comparison, McGovern finished last year with an OPS of 1.075 and Curry with .927 to lead the team
- Top to bottom in the lineup, only 3 guys are in the single digits in RBIs. Averaging 12 RBIs per guy in the lineup through 16 games

Going to level out at some point but this is all pretty encouraging to see this early as it indicates guys are going to slump but have the ability to pull out of it. Coupled with good pitching and this team could make some noise with a little luck.

Tyler...

Thanks for what you do...

Taking the time to delve into the stats and put them into perspective like you have is always an awesome read.

As usual will make a coupla games in Athens this spring and catch the game at SunTrust with the grandkids, but thanks for keeping me informed on the team and what to look forward to...

Not a problem it’s a fun hobby, especially when you’ve watched them go from the highs of Perno to JT and Veazey and Perno eventually being let go to the painful early years of Stricklin and back to seeing them competitive again.

Baseball is such a streaky sport and the college season is so relatively short that you never really know if this will be the year a team breaks through until you’re staring down Omaha (unlike football where you kind of know what you have by mid October). That makes following and chewing on stats really easy for me

Side note: Game is only watchable on State's "Panthervision" which will run you $5.95 for a 24 hour pass. Their whole athletics website and set up is as janky as you'd imagine.
