It's the battles like this that make the difference between closing the talent gap from Athens to Tuscaloosa.
Although in fairness, Bama has been recruiting at this level for 10 years, and Kirby only for 3 and they've still only beaten us by single digits in the last two games.

Did the news on Monday about fields help us land Mathis today? If the transfer news comes out after esd, what qb(s) do we sign today

Losing him to Ole Piss sucks even more, although that would ultimately be better for us.
Agree. If we gotta lose him, lose him to where he’ll be a non-factor on our quests for SECCs.

If we get this thread up to 5k before the announcements, Dallas may be able to seal the deal.

I think we’re on Mathis or the kid from A&M regardless of Fields going public. Coaches know what’s going on and know what they need. I think flipping Mathis would have just made us all realize that Fields was on his way out but obviously we have more context to the flip because of what broke on Monday

Dean has to know we've signed some middle backers that just haven't worked out. He can add some great depth.

The pull for Dean to OM isn’t opportunity to win but family and proximity to home. IGA obviously provides opportunities that just don’t exist at OM but we don’t have his siblings and GF here or his mom 30 min away

We have a great defense for College standards but to have one of the best units in history from a personnel perspective we still have a long ways to go.
JR Reed is not going to be a 1st rounder. We don’t have game changers at the D-Line position.
Tae Crowder was pretty damn good for a guy who was a 2 star and was an RB for 40% of his career at Georgia. But by no means was he an elite play maker.
Sure these guys don’t grow in trees but we have those guys on the O-Line. We have them at RB. We have one at TE. We have one at WR with the potential for 2 more.
Sure Brenton Cox and Adam Anderson have elite potential but they it wasn’t as evident as say JJ Holloman. Sure it’s JJs 2nd year in the program but we are gaining on being the best team and program in history but we have a ways to go and we need guys like Dean to get there.

Honestly I think people are sleeping on Tindall and Quay as stud ILBs to pair with Rice. But if they pan out you are only going to have them for 2 more years before you need the next guy up

I'm sure Dean has heard every team's pro's and cons. Sometimes a kid just wants to stay close to home and represent their state, even if it's not a great program. I can see the attraction to do that.

I'd rather Dean stay in MS if he's not coming to Athens. Maybe he can be a disruptive player to chip away at the SECw teams who are legit competitors.

He will end up a Patrick Willis type there. They are TRASH on defense but he could have the ability to make the guys around him better en route to a nice pro career. And maybe that’s all he is after

Has Matthis signed or is he signing today?

Don’t think he officially signs until Noon but the flip has been announced and confirmed by his father
