If he goes to UT I say we give him the darick Rodgers treatment and never let them win a game and more importantly flatten his arse all over the field

This is DOT34 we're talking about... Obviously penile reduction.

Ahhhh. That would make the adjustment part easier, too, I guess.

So he didn’t want to have any competition? See ya.

For sure. Talent is talent whether you have 100 carries or 200 carries. I would think competition and less wear and tear would be a good thing when he goes pro.

Competition is one thing. He’ll have that at LSU. But knowing you’ll be at least the 4th string running back if everyone is healthy is a completely different animal, especially if you want to play as a Freshman. Swift is arguably the best back in the SEC. Holyfield is an absolute beast, and the best RB recruit in 3 years didn’t even see the field due to injury this year.

It all comes down to priorities, and getting carries early is one of his. LSU has had great backs over the years, and I’m sure they told him he’d be the next one. He also gets to stay close to home.

Sorry I’m getting overly defensive of the kid. I wish we were able to get him. I just think there’s zero need to rag on him for making a completely understandable decision.

....and we were all shocked he picked us to start with, because of all the reasons you stated above.

It is what it is. No need to make excuses or to belittle the kid. He made the decision he should have made to start with. Probably got caught up in the visit and committed. It happens.

^^^ +1. Can't fault the kid for it. It's not like he picked Arizona State or something over us. It's another program that has had RB success, it's the in-state program, has a less steep path to playing time... We can talk about the "less wear and tear" all we want, but there is also an element of "I need time to shine or I'm not going to have great draft prospects".

Holyfield is killing it *right now*... but most draft projections have him not even getting drafted in 2019... barring an exceptional performance in the SECCG against Alabama, could easily see that remaining the case as well. That's a direct result of not getting significant carries early. So there's a pretty decent chance he returns as a senior if he can't get the draft projections up to say 3-4th round. That's not going to prohibit him from having a great NFL career, but he'll go down as another "what if" kinda guy for sure... We've been stacked at RB basically since Gurley/Marshall... It's a lot better position to be in than the years preceding... If it means we miss on a kid here or there, so be it.

Steve Witlong thoughts on Haslewood

quote:

Miami continues to be the program to beat for Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove five-star receiver Jadon Haselwood. But a source with knowledge of the situation says it's Georgia and not Auburn or Tennessee who is the biggest threat to the Hurricanes for the 247Sports Composite's No. 1 receiver. Haselwood decommitted from the Bulldogs on Oct. 2 and took his official to Miami that weekend to watch the Hurricanes beat Florida State. He has also been to Auburn since then and the Vols have been trying to make a push. The No. 4 prospect regardless of position, Haselwood will announce his college decision at the All-American Bowl on Jan 5. NBC will have the broadcast.

I’m not dogging him either but if he don’t want to earn his spot he needs to go somewhere else. Personally I think the LSU game had more to do with it than anyone wants to admit.

What hats will Stevenson have on the table for his commitment ceremony?

“I don’t know right now, but I know definitely Georgia and [Miami] will be on the table, no doubt.”

Chubb came in as 4th string running back option.

He ended up leading the team with 1500 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns his freshman year.

Be the best back you can be and things will work out. Chubb was the definition of being the best he could be.

Don't understand why any top player would want to go to Miami right now, but I'd rather him go there than Auburn or UTk.

That was what Chubb wanted to do. You're blaming Emery for having different priorities than that which I think is dumb. Chubb also didn't have two 5 star backs the class ahead of him. Chubb had AJ Turman. Emery would have to beat out White and Cook. He could absolutely beat them out, and he'd be great behind our O Line. But it's not like he's going to Tulsa or going to La Tech instead of UGA.

And a recovered Zamir White. It's just not apples to apples. Holyfield is probably the closest comparison in that he came in with Chubb/Michel on the roster and performing at a high level... and even still he had zero RBs in the class immediately before him.

Sorry. I meant White and Cook. Just typed the wrong name

And Holyfield is rated more similarly to McIntosh. It's less common with 5 stars.

I wouldn't just assume that. Getting back to your old self after blowing both ACLs is a rare thing.
