Keep in mind that Penn State didn't offer until the day after he attended one of their camps last year. We didn't offer until after he made an unofficial visit to us. Honestly, dude was on NO ONEs radar 9 months ago outside Penn state who saw him camp there....

He didn't take off until the Opening last year which got him invited to the Elite 11.

We don't offer 200 QBs in GA just to tell 'em all to frick off like you suggested. At the time Penn State and then UGA offered him, his stock was skyrocketing from a rock bottom of getting serious offers from Mercer and App State.

I think he understands what's happened and why and he doesn't give a shite. Again, we don't offer 200 QBs just because one day they might be good.

After taking 5 stars in the last two classes good luck in convincing 2 QBs to come in in '18, we've had a hard enough time finding one person willing to come in and face that competition.

True...but the point was being made that Fields was not highly rated anyway. We have had more than two highly rated quarterbacks on campus before. (Granted it rarely works out very well, though!)

I'd be willing to bet a vast majority of those came after Lawrence/Emory made their commitments or at least came after things started not looking great for them. There was a time in January/February that we were sending out offers to QBs on the daily.

Not sure. I will dig through and check, because that is an interesting point.

ETA
Actually I've gotten bored with this subject...I don't want to do a bunch of research for this.

That's kind of my point, though. He was right here in the state, We should have seen his potential. I mean Penn State saw it after one camp. We had an entire football season to see him.

You misunderstood. We send out something like 200 offers total. not just to Quarterbacks, I probably didn't make it clear. But, I have no doubt many of those offers are made knowing we have very slim to no chance of landing the recruit. Sometimes we offer..just in case. Sometimes to show other recruits who we are going after for a possible class. Sometimes to make an impression on a future recruit. there all kinds of reasons a team might offer a kid knowing they won't take him...or knowing the kid won't pick them.

quote:

Again, we don't offer 200 QBs just because one day they might be good.

And again, I didn't say that.

ETA
AH! I went back and re read my post. We were talking about QB's in general when I made thta statement (200 offers) so I see where I miscommunicated. My apologies. I meant, we send out 200 offers total, not just Quarterbacks. The misunderstanding was my fault entirely.

I definitely wasn't trying to give you one. You're always one of the most respectful posters on this board. I was just giving my opinion on the matter in a way I didn't intend to come off as harsh.

We would have had a better read on Fields' abilities if he played earlier. I'm sure that when he came to UGA, like IT mentioned we saw his talent and thought he was worth offering after going through his film as well.

Also, that white receiver for Harrison is my new Brad Stewart. I think that kid's freaking good

ETA: When Fields committed to Penn State in November (after we offered him) he was ranked 183rd in the nation. Now he's a top 10 player. I'm sure he can understand and appreciate the new found praise.

I didn't think you were, and I appreciate your saying that. I just wanted to make sure you guys didn't think I was trying to be a jerk. I do that without trying, sometimes!
AND, it is difficult to read emotions and intent sometimes on here.

It's crazy that he hasn't played that much. I didn't realize he was that new to the game. Sounds like his potential is off the charts.

Georgia has had good luck in the past with slow white receivers, so who knows? Maybe we should sign him?

QBs offered in January-May of 2017:
Corral
Tanner McKee
Joe Milton
Tyler Shough
Theo Day
Cameron Cooper
Ben Bryant
Adrian Martinez
Dorian Thompson-Robinson
Gerry Bohanan
Jalen Mayden
Jarren Williams
James Foster
Tanner Mordecai
Holton Ahlers
James Graham
There are another 4-5 that don't have the offer date listed but they aren't good enough to warrant offering earlier than the guys on this list so I'd assume they are also Jan-May offers.

The only QBs I'm positive we offered before Lawrence committed are Fields and Dak Joyner, who holds an offer from 2015.

Wow! You did a lot of work. Those offers you mentioned....those aren't just Georgia offers, are they? I am guessing they are all notable offers?
There are some pretty good names on there.

The one that still surprises me that we are still in the running for is Corral.
ETA
From what you said, it does appear as if we were betting heavily on Lawrence, though.

Quite a jump! If he continues to camp he could become the #1 guy in the country. 247 Composite already has him at #3, I think. Fields seems to be a good kid. I hope we can get him. Also, as either you or IT pointed out he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I noticed that, too, in one of his interviews.

We only offers 2 QBs before we offered Fields. Those 2 were Trevor Lawrence and Emory Jones, who were the #1 pro Style and #1 DT at the time. Who cares when we offered him, I just hope we sign him

Teams that offered Fields before we did:

That last is cool and all, but none of the teams on that list are considered to be still in the running. So obviously he doesn't care when he was offered.

ETA: Nevermind I now see this was already covered.

No problem. Sometimes things need to be repeated, and it's a good observation.

I think that top Georgia recruits who favor UGA want Kirby to go all in on Fields. I hope we sent Corral elsewhere even if he picks Florida.

This isn't going to be the 1st time I've ever said this, but I disagree with you.

Hard to just "turn down" the number two QB in the country. I just feel like with our luck, that's the type of thing that will bite us in the arse down the road. Not saying I wouldn't rather have Fields, but I don't think we should just tell Corral to frick off. Too big of a risk IMO.

You give Fields his visit and the 2 weeks before Corral shows up to commit if Corral wants to commit before leaving you take it and wish Fields well.

Don't think we have another option. It would suck to lose Fields but if he hasn't committed and Corral wants to we have to take Corral.

I almost hate to post it, thinking I'm gonna jinx us, but if we can get Fields to go with Zeus and company - all of a sudden this 2018 class doesn't look so bad for us after all.

Then if the 2019 class pans out like the 2017, or even close to it... that will be a lot of talent. I'd be stoked.

I can't remember, who did we lose Tracey Rocker to? Did he go to Agent Boom or CMR in Miami?
I'm slightly concerned that our D line recruiting is falling off.
Paranoid or no?

Not necessarily addressed to TearsofK...
