Tindall was listed as a candidate to get a 5th star by the 247 national writers. He’s really impressed them in San Antonio, apparently.

Yeah I read that he's been the best linebacker all week.

I just don't see a guy jumping from out of the Top 100 into the Top 25 or 30 players. That's a long way up but it could happen. Brenton Cox could drop. I could Salyer actually moving up.

What's the word on James Cook? I haven't seen anything on him.

I lied, 247 is now showing Channing Tindall as a very High 4 star and the number 19 player. He was 92 last time I checked. I wonder if this is final.

Depends on which service you go with. 247 already had Tindall ranked just outside of 5-Star range at a 97. He could very conceivably get his 5th with them.

I honestly have not heard much about Cook and his performance, but Salyer has been murdering folks and Hill has done very well this week.

Edit: according to Simmons, that is not a new ranking. He was already ranked #19 and rated at 97 before before showing up in San Antonio. Don’t think it would bump him far enough up in the composite, though.

Yeah the only negative review I have heard was on Cox and it wasn't so much a negative as it was just didnt' see a 5 star which 247 has him in the 50's already so that's not entirely a suprise. I didn't realize 247 was so high on Tindall. I would imagine he will get a 5th star with them. That's pretty awesome.

I think Cook has done very well, especially in his pass catching. Saw a clip of him torch Surtain, the other 5* CB from American Heritage.

When I watch Cooks film I see a 5 star honestly. Extremely elusive and has great hands for a back and does everything well. The knock on him which is probably what keeps him from a 5 star is he he lacks top end speed for a slippery make you miss back. I read somewhere his 40 times were really slow but when I watch film he doesn't look slow at all.

His senior tape is really good. I imagine that's why he jumped. When your talking the number 19 player that's above Adam Anderson and several other huge names in this recruiting cycle which means they love him as a player. Can't hate that.

Roquan Smith I think finished in the 30's on 247

Yeah... 247 updated him during the season... it just didn't impact his composite very much so I don't think it was highly noticed.

At some point, ESPN is going to have to get better with their rankings or just be taken out of the composite... 211... yeah... sure... he's the 211th best recruit in the country.

Rivals still has him at 144, but at least that's *closer* to the vicinity of the 90ish that he was on 247 before they reranked... Rivals and ESPN just don't re-rank as frequently to my knowledge... or if they do, it's more frequently subtle shifts, where 247 is more likely to admit a big "oops" and try to properly account for it.

I think he's exactly what we were looking for in a second back. He's not Sony Michel, but he offers some of the same type of versatility at least. I could definitely see him getting the bump if they expand past 28 composite 5*s... (most years it's right around 32 +/- 3, in my head I thought it was supposed to mimic 1st round NFL draft potential, but as I went back through previous years, the 32 number was rarely exact... maybe made that up?)

Caught a little bit of a smile from him in this video clip when they start asking him about the Dawgs and the national championship, but I really do hope our coaches and the guys in our locker room are able to help him grow socially in the ways that his mom has mentioned that she hopes for him. He doesn't need to be the most talkative guy, but he does seem awfully uncomfortable when he has to be in the spotlight. Nick is quiet, but I never got the sense that he just outright felt awkward answering questions.

Do similar things in completely different ways. Sony is a homerun threat every time has the ball with the ability to run thru you however year one Sony was smallish and very similar. He put on weight over his career and developed that ability to run thru or around or past. Sony grew a lot over his 4 years. The year where he carried the load he wasn't dominant like he has been this season.

Yeah, he's easily a Top 100 player but I don't think ESPN does the camps and stuff the way other places do. Rivals and 247 try to maintain updates and go to all the camps. That being said, camp warriors a lot of times get high marks on those sites that just aren't great players in a full team setting similar to the combine.

Agreed... In this particular case, wouldn't say that Tindall has gotten that kind of preferential treatment. 247/Rivals obviously are focused on generating revenue, so the constant reranking and the hyping of off-season activity is important to their machine. But with that said, they also put a lot more effort into scouting the kids than ESPN seems to.

I'd actually love to find a way to get copies of the End of JR year rankings compared to end of SR year rankings for each of the respective services and do some statistical analysis on historical accuracy. No idea where one would get that dataset, but if I could get it, I could work some pretty fancy dashboards and reports on it... separate out by position... look at productivity in college... would be fun.

Look now at number of recruits rated for '18 (3573), then look at '19 (996).
That number in itself is crazy. Most don't get rated until offered.
Rankings are mostly scams, based off how hard major teams go after players.
Of course, you can throw 30 blue chips together watching tape, but these services aren't going out and finding kids, besides their camps.
We follow the visit, they follow the offers. Great scheme. They get paid for subscriptions, get info from subscribers, and most still mislead for financial gain.
Capitalism

Tindall is the best ILB in the country. They struggle identifying where a kid best projects sometimes on those services. Hill would get his fifth, if they gave them to guards more often lol.
Cook is a high 4
Cox is a 5
Tindall is a 5

Let's just do our own rankings

Makes sense...

I like it. I do tend to agree, that if Swift was not a 5*, Cook probably shouldn't be. I'd say Swift was more complete out of HS than Cook... at least by a little bit.

No chance of confirmation bias in those rankings at all.. frick it. I'm in!

Americus, what is your latest projections for the last 5 spots in the 2018 recruiting class?

Current unsigned UGA commits:
1) Jordan Davis, DT 6'6"-330lbs (3-star - #407 nationally)
2) Trammel Walthour, DT 6'4"-277lbs (3-star - #601)
3) Rachad Wildgoose, S 5'11"-190lbs (3-star - #846)

I just don't see any of those guys outside of Jordan Davis as worthy of a spot right now given Georgia's few spots and so many wanting to come. While Davis is ranked low, he has freakish size for the middle and could possibly be developed. Outside of landing longshots Rick Sandidge or Michael Thompson, I believe the Dawgs sign Davis.

My Dream Scenario:
1) Tyson Campbell,CB 6'2", 180lbs (5-star,#27 national)
2) Isaac Taylor-Stuart,CB 6'2, 187lbs (5-star,#26national)
3) Quay Walker, OLB 6'4", 220lbs (4-star, #65 national)
4) Tommy Bush, WR 6'5", 191lbs (4-star, #193 national)
5) Jordan Davis, DT (see above)

What are your thoughts on the above, Americus? How realistic is it that we could get both Campbell and ITS? do we even want both or is it "either/or" and first one to commit?

Believe I saw you maintain we are still the favorite for Quay? Is that right?

Is Tommy Bush to the "good guys" a done deal as a silent commit or still a battle?

How do you see the Defensive Tackle thing shaking out? I would rather have Sandidge but cannot find anything on him much at all - seems like his crew are quiet.

What say you? thanks for all of your insight, Americus! much appreciation.

Yep, I don’t see why Luke Ford isn’t a five star. Anybody heard anything about him at the Army All Star game. I love his film. He looks like a damn baby Gronk to me.

Thank you bud. I'm just sharing and I've posted here for years. It's not for attention. I can get that being a natural born idiot lol.

My last list is your dream last, except replace ITS with Walthour.

Walthour and Davis were always takes. Needed test scores on Walthour, and Davis wanted to wait. You'll see lol.
Walthour is ranked on his Jr film, and honestly the ranking at that time was high. What he's shown the coaches in the past year, and his development in his senior year, secured his spot. He has had it for a long time tbh.

Remember it's evaluating what you can do with a kid. Can he be coached? Has a Coach taught him poor technique, if any? How does he transition? Btw- none of this applies to Walthour, just pointing out we wanted him. Good class with Wyatt and Davis along side. '19 DT's won't disappoint.

When he plays in the NFL one day, remember we were on him first! He's going to be good. Really good. Hate he won't be a Dawg. Big list of guys that, when combined, best damn near every other SEC class. That's pretty cool lol.

Eta-not to imply that we didn't go after several talented DT's. Sandidge is going to be awesome. We went after all of them... Even some not mentioned.

Might pull another one late. You NEVER know.
