It's a case study in "why to not overreact to mid season recruiting rankings". Over the summer, Florida and Tennessee had "top 5" classes and we were in the 60s. Anyone who was really following knew that's not how things would go.

Wait, is Corral getting happy feet? I'd imagine he'd want to play for USC, since he's a left coast guy, but what do I know?
Seems like he was committed to USC at one time, but had a couple of problems and they told him to look elsewhere?
Is he the guy that got into a fight with Wayne Gretzky's son? Then got into a little bit more trouble after that. I'm pretty sure this came out on a USCw board. TIFWIW.

While we were ranked in the 50's
This will be the best class ever signed at UGA....
And we took a kicker in it

Straws will lose his mind if they don't sign Corral
Straws will be there tot ell the Florida board that his sources tell him that there is nothing to worry about. Just follow blah...blah...blah...blah..
Then when it falls apart he will tell them that he knew it all along, and he didn't really want to be a Gator, so he didn't really want them.

How about Corral to UCLA? Y’all dont think he’d want to be running Chip Kelly’s offense?

It's why he's on the other side of the country. Talent will make coaches take chances. Mullen might of had bad gambling experiences while in Mississippi.
Isn't MSU under investigation as well? Good timing Dan. Ran that read option perfect

There is some marvelous reading to be had from this and other threads around that time. Amazing that people thought kirby smart forgot how to recruit overnight. That would be like me waking up tomorrow and not knowing how to eat.
Equally funny that some people think Dan Mullen has suddenly learned how to recruit and not be an awkward scientologist. Haha

Nah. FWIW Straws will actually blame Mullen for this one... Making the visit to Fields and missing on Corral would send him into a bit of a tailspin but more about the optics of Mullen's move there than anything.

I could definitely see this hapenning

Watch what Emory Jones does. If he doesn't flip to Bama, as many expect him to do, Corral probably ends up with the Tide

Would rather they land Emory... I think Corral had higher upside.

Regardless of who they sign this year, Tua is the best QB on their roster.

This is another one of those jokes... It will get old one day... But that day is not today.

Always possible, I guess. I was thinking his offense required a very quick QB. I don't know enough about Corral's style to know if he would be a fit or not.

My evaluation of Corral is:
-Fromm level mobility
-Very strong arm (not Eason/Stafford, but elite)
-some character issues (not somewhere between Tebow and Manziel)

Seems like he could be a Mariota-lite in a Kelly offense. Mariota ran a 4.52 or something 40 yard dash at the Combine I believe. Corral had a laser timed 4.7 at The Opening I believe... so not quite as fast straight line, but not a slouch either. Mariota about an inch taller and as of draft time had about 20 pounds on Corral, but was actually 10 pounds lighter coming out of HS... so the build is about right.
Looked up the other QBs that Kelly ran as OC and HC at Oregon:
Dennis Dixon - 4.49 40 yard, 20 yard shuttle - 3.81
Jeremiah Masoli - 4.60 40 yard, 20 yard shuttle - 4.13
Darron Thomas - 4.80 40 yard, 20 yard shuttle - 4.28
Corral with a 4.5 shuttle time... so change of direction not elite (and/or something he hasn't trained for specifically as much).
Tough to compare kid in HS to guys going into the draft, particularly on events that may not have been focal points... but his straight line speed seems close enough to in line with what Kelly has had success with that I could see it working. Might not be the "perfect" fit, but I'd be shocked if Kelly would pass on him this late in the cycle either. He's probably a better natural passer than all of those guys at this stage than they were coming out of HS.

So if we land Mayes where does he fit in? I gotta believe next year is:
LT Thomas
LG Salyer if we get or Shaffer or Netori.
C Gaillard
RG Cleveland
RT Wilson.
That's stacked and young. Is Mayes waiting 2-3 years to start?

I don't know a whole lot about Mayes and what he is capable of, but if I had to guess, he would compete immediately at RG. Along the OLine you would rotate generously, so he would get a lot of playing time, probably. It's not unusual for an Olinman to wait at least a couple f years to start. Thomas starting as a freshmen is unusual. More freshmen are starting lately, it seems, but it is still the exception more than the rule.
