At that point I think he was only a 3* though. Apparently ESPN just made him their 75th overall player and he got another bump on 247, which really launched his composite ranking.

Aaah, completely misread that. Composite 4*. Niice. Hard to trust ESPN much in teh crootin' world, but Kirby, Mel, and Tray seem to like him which is enough for me.

His film is spectacular, so idk. 247 said he would go higher in their next big update.

Then I'm glad we got in on him. His coach should probably be fired if he's legit top 100 and it's October though lol

He seems to have made a *huge* jump from junior to senior season in terms of film quality. Dunno how long he's even been playing football honestly, but he did transfer schools at the beginning of this year.

In case you hadn't seen it, here is his latest film... LINK

ETA: suspicion confirmed: LINK

quote:

It’s very rare for a senior prospect to turn into a blue-chip recruit.

So with that, Philadelphia (Pa.) Neumann-Goretti coach Al Crosby called the last few weeks a “whirlwind.”

His recently-minted four-star defensive tackle Christian Barmore has become the hottest recruits in the country.

A 6-foot-6, 297-pound people mover that has quickly put himself in the discussion as the best at his position in the country, Barmore’s combination of size, quickness off the snap, motor and violent style of play has some of America’s best college coaches salivating over a guy they didn’t know existed at this time last year.

quote:

Not bad for a kid that didn’t play as a junior. At this time last year, Barmore was focused on trying to be a basketball player.

“I met him in May,” Crosby said. He coached several high-profile recruits at nearby Imhotep High before moving over to Neumann-Goretti where they are currently 6-0. “It was rumored that his old high school was closing and his coach brought him by. The kid came in and (my defensive coordinator Dwight Thomas) looked at him and said that’s an SEC d-lineman.”

Thomas was spot on, and it only took six months for his observation to be proved correct.

A few college programs saw what Crosby, Thomas and company saw as well.

Buffalo, Temple and Morgan State offered purely based on short and t-shirt camp performances. Barmore committed to the local Owls on June 19 and a few days later he got his first Power Five offer from Maryland. He camped at Oregon in July (his offensive tackle teammate Justin Johnson is committed to the Ducks) and was offered, and Rutgers jumped in at the end of the month.

If anything, give that man a raise...

Mostly unrelated, but in the same article:

quote:

Ohio State’s assistant coach Greg Schiano is currently leading the 247Sports Recruiter Rankings.

Keep an eye on No. 2 Dell McGee out of Georgia as a guy that could end up finishing at the recruiter of the year.

McGee has already landed a pair of five-stars in the nation’s No. 1 recruit quarterback Justin Fields and top-ranked running back Zamir White. He also helped land Top247 defensive end Azeez Ojulari and four-star cornerback Chris Smith.

Moving forward the 44-year old McGee is also assigned to five-star offensive guard Jamaree Salyer and America’s No. 3 running back James Cook, both of whom are considered UGA leans per the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

McGee is also working on some potential high-profile flips behind the scenes.

Georgia's class currently ranks No. 12 by 247Sports and with what McGee and company are working on to close things out, Top10 is probable for a second-straight year following a 2017 class that finished No. 2.

Who knows at this point. Gotta get him on campus... gotta take on the behemoth that is Alabama recruiting...

From that same article:

quote:

“When Temple offered that gave him chills,” Crosby said. “He was blown away by Oregon, Georgia offered and I know that knocked him off and Alabama, it was like wow I just got offered by the Mecca.”

Where Barmore will ultimately sign will be one of the biggest recruiting storylines down the stretch.

Pretty much spot on... with that kind of meteoric rise that quickly, it's hard to know... most of the guys will have a longer standing relationship somewhere and it helps to bring a guy in... at this point it's a matter of just raw recruiting (read: sales) skills. On the upside, we can point to Trent Thompson who is likely leaving soon, and the work that Tray Scott has done on the DL with everyone so far. There is playing time to be had and we'll play young guys if they help us... I think we've got that going for us. Bama and others will have their pitches as well... depends on what moves the needle for him, and at this point I'm not sure anyone knows what that is.

Either way, it adds another talented guy in a pool where we have a need in this class. Need 4-5 more of these kids to pop out of nowhere.

Eta- kudos to the guys getting that offer out before Bama.

Most definitely... any thoughts on my comment from yesterday in this thread, regarding class size, positions, etc Americus? Not trying to guess who may not remain a commit, but trying to get a feel for number of spots by position... Seems like just to take the guys we feel reasonably good about, we're likely to lose someone...

Yes we are.

After tomorrow, I'd think 9 more.

Not sure which side gets the fifth guy splitting 9.

Question: reading a lot about the hard cap of 25. Hypothetically speaking, if we had 15 seniors graduate, 7 juniors leave early and 8 guys transfer could we sign 30 to replace all of them?

Not really. So you have a limit of 25 initial counters per recruiting year... Someone else alluded to a cap off no more than 28 NLI (national letters of intent)... The 'extras' can potentially be counted back into the prior year's class IF you didn't fill all 25 initial counters from that class. There are a lot more nuances to it, but that's the nuts and bolts more or less. On my phone, so someone double check me for sanity.

Besides the graduation, this looks like Tennessee's past recruiting history

I was just throwing numbers out there. I could see an 85 man roster getting in deep trouble with a hard 25 limit though. I haven't looked that closely at our 85 but I'm guessing we won't have 85 on scholarship next year if our best juniors keep having big years and some of the upper class guys don't see playing time in their future. Especially talking about o linemen that may never see the field.

We're at 84 now.

There are ways to go about roster management.
Numbers come to 22-23, but there will be attrition. 25 is my guess. That gets us where we need to be.

If they're not competing for playing time or redshirting, they will not be on the roster.

Yeah, that's my point. If the Seniors, early out juniors and transfers equal more than 25 for 2-3 years in s row we will quickly drop below the 85 limit.
