is it just me, or does anyone else not too impressed with Cook?

His junior film, yes. His senior film, no. He's having a much better year this year.

This. He's looked much better this year. His in-game speed has been the one thing that maybe doesn't really jump out at me, but pretty sure he's timed well at events, so not sure if it's deceptive or maybe just seeing highlights from later in the game and he's gassed? Dunno... but his movement in space looks good. Vision solid. Runs inside the tackles pretty well when he gets blocks as well. Reminds me of Sony in some ways... he's not anywhere near as polished as Sony was even coming out of HS, but definitely see some similarities.

I think he redshirt if he sign. I think the depth chart will look like this to start 2018:
1. Swift
2. Holyfield
3. White
4. Herrien
5. Cook/RS

You can go ahead and switch these two.

You don't redshirt a near 5* RB. I think we may have played all 5 RBs in every game this year, Cook will get PT his first year if he comes here.

Unlikely unless dealing with an injury to start the season. From a roster depth standpoint, I don't envision us RS'ing RBs... We're running 5 deep at RB right now, I see no reason for us to do less than that going forward.

2018?
LT A. Thomas
LG Salyer
C Gaillard
RG Kindley
RT I. Wilson

And 4/5 will be Frosh or Soph....

If we sign Cook, I think Holyfield transfers. I hope not. I really like what I've seen of Holyfield, but our backfield is getting very, very crowded.

I'm not sure I buy that. I think Holyfield right now is starting to prove that he should be getting carries before Herrien. With Chubb/Michel gone, he has the opportunity to try and steal a bigger share of the carries splitting with Swift. I don't see Cook as likely to come in and shuffle Holyfield down (and probably not Herrien either)... more likely he comes in and ends up 5th on the depth chart for 2018.

Transferring now would necessitate sitting out a season... staying through 2018 there is a chance that they could graduate by then and potentially take a grad transfer to play immediately instead if they are still unhappy with their place on the depth chart. I think that's another reason why you likely won't see a lot of RBs redshirted by Kirby... if you can keep them engaged and involved for the first 2 years, year 3 shouldn't be a hard sell if you can keep getting them some playing time and then a grad transfer if they're not seeing the workload that they feel like they should be...

This might sound dumb and is the most first world problem ever... but do we need to sign another QB? Maybe a JUCO or Grad Transfer? Only thinking here is that IF Eason should leave and Fields is willing and wanting to redshirt for a season... we might be sitting with a walk-on backup for Fromm...

I wouldn't want us playing against Fields and the crew he brings with him. So Dawgs sign him, problem solved

Wouldn't make sense unless Kirby *knows* Eason is transferring. Spots in this year's class are a little limited and you wouldn't want to do anything to rock the boat on Fields at all either... If we have to blow the redshirt off of Fields, guess what... we'll do it. See: Fromm 2017.

He's not said specifically that he *wants* to redshirt, rather that he understands that it could be valuable and many great NFL QBs have done so at the college level.

I hope you are right. I really like the way Holyfield looks, but he would still probably be the #3 back here.
I would almost rather Cook go somewhere else and we keep Holyfield. (I know that is heresy for many on here, but it is how I feel)

We really need another scholarship QB, gotta assume that Eason is gone if he can't get anything but mop up duty for the rest of the year. The fact that spots are so tight with the hard 25 cap, I wouldn't be surprised if we went the grad transfer route.

If Eason leaves, and lets hope he doesn't, then Fields will not redshirt. However, I would like to have another QB, but I have not heard anything about another QB.
